How ironic, considering everyone thinks Saturday morning toons are dead. Maybe all those godawful infomercials and shows with old people discussing politics just aren't as lucrative as they used to be.

You and I must have read different articles as nowhere on that post was there anything about FOX showing anime.

Shaking the good ol' 8 ball tells me that the block will consist of programs like "Family Guy" and "American Dad". The fact that FOX plans to show the block means that FOX will be promoting its own programing, and not anything that's currently exclusive to the CN.

Don't hold your breath over anime on FOX.

Who said anything about airing anime? By the way the Hollywood Reporter article sounds, it will be more like a block of new original programming than anything anime-related. That could always change, but I doubt it.

Yeah, I assumed it was going to be original shows instead of Fox reruns.

Notice it stated....

The American television network Fox announced on Sunday that it will launch a 90-minute late-night Saturday block in January of next year.

It's more like Sunday morning. This is essentially the same as Adult Swim, not Toonami Rising Sun

But, then again, you might be talking about Saturday night/Sunday morning. In which case, my bad then.

Hrmm the words Fox and animation on an ANIME site sort of give one the impression that it's something other than family guy and American dad trash.

There was another story I found about it that mentioned that it would be 4 shows.

If that's true, then 2 of them would have to be 15 minute shows to fit all of them in an hour & a half time slot. It also doesn't mention if it will be licensed stuff, new original shows or a mixture of both.

I'm guessing this is their attempt to get back into late saturday night ratings. Since they canceled the previous shows or were running reruns of some prime time shows in that time slot.

To run this new unit, FOX has inked an exclusive deal with Nick Weidenfeld, former head of program development for Adult Swim and executive producer of acclaimed series “Childrens Hospital” and “The Boondocks.” The network has also tapped producer Hend Baghdady (“Warren The Ape,” “The Andy Milonakis Show”) as the executive in charge of production for the new division.

Under their leadership, the unit will develop and produce an ambitious slate of original animated shorts and series to run both on-air and online. The late-night programming block will air Saturdays (11:00 PM-12:30 AM ET/PT) on FOX and will feature four new animated series per season starting in January 2013.

Yeah, doubt it'd be anime, as FOX won't benefit much from it - they don't sell the DVDs, and more importantly, they won't own it, its merch licensing rights, its future syndication royalties, etc. FOX is in this for the BIG business opportunities, not small-time business that acquiring anime would bring (late-night non-premium ad fees could only bring in so much).

So it'll be their own programs like Family Guy or American Dad, but not those series themselves. Those series are already on primetime, so there's no point in bringing them down to late-night (plus they're already doing well syndicated late-night on Adult Swim). Reilly also said about graduating the late-night successes up to primetime.

Meanwhile, ya guys realize this Saturday night block will also be running against Adult Swim Saturday, more particularly (if) any anime early enough to go against it.

Yeah, considering that Adult Swim is collabing against their own timeslot... well, yeah. Says what they think of Saturday night Adult Swim. I can't blame 'em though. This is too big an opportunity for the folks at William Street to pass up.
