Hm... that's an unexpected license. I thought the conclusion was that magical girls didn't sell well in America? This must have been a cheap license (or bundled in with something).

I wonder if this is a case of testing the waters (like they're doing with Princess Jellyfish) for more shoujo-oriented series to see if the fans bite. I'd think there would be better series to try that out on. Nevertheless, I didn't particularly care for this series and am unlikely to buy it from FUNi even just to support more series like these being licensed (we'll see).

I just bought Pretear dirt cheap from DeepDiscount during their Black Friday/Cyber Monday back in November. From a purely selfish perspective, I would have preferred Funi used their license money for some other title.

This was probably cheap, and it's already dubbed. From a business standpoint this is money well spent, as It's a very good show.

For a second I thought "FUNimation is licensing something from 2001?" Then I saw that is was a rescue from ADV. Makes much more sense.

I really love this show, probably more than I should. I own the ADV release, but hopefully this will get newer fans interested in this show, and with shows like Madoka Magica being very successful right now, we might see a renewed interest in magical girl shows.

I wonder who owns the ADV dub now, and if this has anything to do with current litigation?

I would have thought anyone who wanted this series already had it or could still get it cheaply.

Awesome! This really is a great little series, so it'll be nice to have it easily available again. One of these days I should finally pick up the manga...

It seems old is new again these days. I hope more out of print titles are brought back....at least in digital form.

I'm going to say ADV Still owns it, but they were probably reimbursed. this gives the licensor the right to give it to another company if they chose to purchase it.

Holy shit, they read my survey. Anime hyper I put Pretear down as one of my favorite box sets, and gave all the reasons. I have the box set already, so I have no need, but I hope it'll get more exposure for being an amazing series.

This surprises me, as it's not a super well-known series. Also, I thought they were primarily looking at new series, not rescue license...

*is sad because Mawaru Penguindrum's odds of being picked up by Funimation are steadily dropping*

I like Pretear, but I already own the ADV box set, so I won't be re-buying it ^^;

What, FUNimation couldn't wait until October?[/wrong]

In all, it's good to see Pretear get picked up, though I thought that Sentai or AEsir still had it (and honestly, it's kind of strange that FUNi picked it up, as I thought people were half-and-half on it). It's not perfect, but I liked Sato's treatment of the Snow White tale and some of the chances he took with it spoiler[(though I thought that he copped-out on the ending a little by not sticking with the tragic climax and going with a "happy ending" reboot)]. The dub was good and I hope they retain it.

Regardless of the reason, I'm always happy to see license rescues for classic, honestly good shows.

I haven't seen Pretear but I've heard nothing but positive things about it, so I'd like to check it out now.

Keep up the great work, FUNi!
