doesnt look like this was adjusted for inflation. movie tickets today are 9.50 where I live after 3 pm (7.50 before 3pm) for adults and 3 dollars cheaper for kids.....just in 2009 It was a full dollar and a half cheaper overall...and in 2006 it was 2 dollars cheaper than now. i cant remember what it was back in 99 when Pokemon came out but it was A LOT cheaper...which makes pokemon's achievement even greater.

Well, you can take into account inflation, but then you have to realize that Arrietty's the widest release for a non-card game-based anime.

They never adjust for inflation, which is why basically every new Blockbuster can claim it had the highest grossing weekend ever.

Yea, I was thinking the same thing about ticket prices...

It doesn't have a chance of beating the Pokemon movies, but depending on how long it stays in theaters, I think it could definitely beat the YGO movie. I saw it last weekend, and I thought it was fantastic! Definitely getting the BD when it comes out, especially cause I'd like to hear the UK dub as well.

Yay! This is fantastic! Maybe it will help with future Studio Ghibli releases so my town ( Which is a very small town in southern Kentucky surrounded by bigger cities) can get it so I wouldn't have to convince my parents to take me an hour away to go see it. ( I was lucky my dad had a softball meeting at one of the nearby towns the weekend after it was released or I might not have got to see this amazing piece of art.) Very Happy

I can see this being huge on DVD and Blu-ray! I hope it outgrosses the YGO movie too (so far, the only anime movie I've ever seen in theaters). Arrietty can definitely pull this off. It's great that Disney is giving Ghibli more attention than ever!

Pretty sure that honor belongs to a Pokemon movie.

So are we just going to forget the existence of pokemon cards then?
