Well deserved. Funny how Americans complain about the price even though its more than 100 dollars less than what Japanese pay... ON THE SAME DAY OF RELEASE!

Ugh. Why is this funny? Really? Do we have to go through this EVERY! SINGLE! TIME!? Japan is Japan. North America is North America. You cannot compare the two pricing arrangements. Having a $720 price point for a 2-cours show (which is what North Americans would have to pay to get both Fate/Zero sets) is not a sustainable purchasing model for most North American anime buyers. I really don't see why that is such a hard concept to grasp for some people, BUT WHOOPEE, IT'S A WHOLE $100 CHEAPER THAN IN JAPAN!!! Rolling Eyes <-somebody get me about a trillion more of these, please.

O.O So if I did my math right they made about $19 million from selling just this boxset alone, no wonder they can afford to spend enough money to make the show look that good.

I was expecting this, at least 40,000 in week 1.

Also, kinda surprised how long it took today for this news to pop up. I was sure when I came home from school about 4 hours ago that I'd see news on this already.

Anyway, good job Fate/Zero. Great numbers for a great show, and great release. I wonder if they included numbers from here at all.

Here we have proof that this type of commodity model works. The price tag may be high, but fans and collectors are willing to dish out the cash to own the release in Japan and North America. And to quote a fan again for NA audiences,

"It's really is a common misconception among anime fans now that anime is somehow a commodity and should be priced as such. Unfortunately, the market is far too small, and the anime-as-a-commodity consumer base is far too poor to sustain the industry under this model. Yet Aniplex is simply accepting that fact and pushing the industry in the direction that has kept it alive in Japan."

they can EASILY make a profit on much lower numbers...like EVERY OTHER COMPANY does. No one but Aniplex charges anywhere NEAR that much for 12 episodes. You have to remember they're cutting off thousands of potential (and probable..like myself) buyers by making it so freakin expensive. It's a great show, I would've easily agreed to the standard Bluray price of 40-60 dollars for 12 episodes..but 300-400 is just insane. No show is worth that for 5 hours of entertainment

I wish that there were more extras. It is twice the cost of the whole Madoka series; were it the full series and some fantastic extras I would have considered it pretty strongly.

I also wish that aniplex would re-release a few more titles. Garden of Sinners is pretty much impossible to get your hands on right now, and I would rather own it than rent it from PSN, OreImo only got a dvd release in America so it could use one, and I hope that they rerelease Fate/Zero in a complete series version.

Huh? Every company in Japan releases anime at around the same price. 40-60 dollars for 12 episodes is the price model in the West. But this release wasn't a Western release. It was a Japanese one. As has been mentioned, the price is honestly quite a bit lower than it would have been had they gone the singles route that every other show does.

42k is still a bit underwhelming for me, but I imagine it'll have decent legs and reach the 50k mark by the 3rd or 4th week.

I wonder if the North American edition was counted towards those numbers? And even then, I'm VERY curious as to how many the North American version sold in comparison...

Actually no. On Amazon Japan, at today's exchange rate, it costs $333 to import it (Excluding the international shipping cost.). It costs $370/$380 (Depending where you live.), so Rightstuf is charging more, and it costs more here. Aniplex probably anticipated the exchange rate to get worse, but that didn't happen.

On a side-note, Amazon Japan is sold out of their initial shipment already. The day the set came out, it displayed the message it's displaying now.

Probably not a ton. According to Mike Toole here on ANN, The Garden of Sinners was 800 copies (Which sold out before release from almost 2 months of pre-order.), so I doubt with this they decided to have way more copies of Fate/Zero than The Garden of Sinners.

I doubt it. These are Oricon Japan numbers, and I doubt Right Stuf counts in their numbers.

This doesn't surprise me considering price and the franchise's popularity. I wonder how much Haruhi cost when it first went on sale? Not as much as fate/zero for sure.
