I'm wondering this too. It's been on the NYT's Best Seller List once before this too. Was the cost of putting out Twin Spica so great that even sales like this just aren't enough? Or could seriously every person who reads Twin Spica just buy the volumes the week they come out and then a huge drop off occurs?

I recently had a short conversation with @Vertical_Ed on twitter, and he told me that the majority of Twin Spica sales are to libraries (which led to me admitting that I'm reading the series via my public library...)

According to him, Chi's Sweet Home does much better numbers in home sales, but it's also more costly to produce, as it's flipped and colored to make it more kid-friendly.

So if libraries are the only ones buying Spica, I imagine they'd buy tons of copies as soon as it comes out and only buy more if they need to replace a damaged volume later.

Isn't this the first time a One Piece volume stays in the list for two weeks? Very Happy

Yeah library sales and wholesales outperform retail 4 to 1 for Twin Spica. And those orders tend to come very early and almost entirely within the first two weeks to month. Retail sales have a better long tail, especially now with internet sales extending the life of a sales period from 4-6 months (in brick and mortar stores) to about 1 year. So a title like 7 Billion Needles or MW continue to get reprints as they're retail sales tend to be higher (more like 1 to 2 favoring retail...Chi is more like 1 to 3 on the retail side).

So these NY Times numbers are likely from the wholesale/library market, which buy more copies of this many Tezuka releases and even Drops of God (and these books are doing great for the most part).

I just now noticed it's called Monster Hunter Orage and not Monster Hunter Orange.

Also I didn't know Mashima wrote it. That's cool

Nope. I believe some of the speed-up volumes (like the Water Seven/Enies Lobby material) stayed in the list for two weeks at best. I don't believe I've seen a One Piece volume stay in the list for three weeks or more.

No. One Piece 57 stayed on the list for 3 weeks in a row.

Also glad see Sailor Moon is still doing well.
