If 3WA is galaxy-wide, why call them only world-wide?

Another fine example of Japanese logic.

I think my favorite episodes in that series are the religious cult with some serious funding, the asteroid railgun casino, and the red eyes. The trucker episode is pretty damn cool as well, and likely an influence on that episode from Cowboy Bebop. I hope when stand-alone OVAs are reviewed, they're all separate, with Flight 005 Conspiracy being my favorite Dirty Pair property, followed by Project EDEN.

Dirty Pair has always had its finger on the pulse of sci-fi, and the drop scene in episode one feels exactly the same as the one from Aliens, even thought it's likely molded on Starship Troopers.

Technically speaking, Nozomi's release is the one that fans have been waiting for. ADV Films released these OVAs a couple of times back in the early 00s, and their discs had the worst "ghosting" problem - afterimages created by poor video mastering- that I'd ever seen in a commercial home video release.

I had fallen in love back in 2003 when I got the ADV thin box. I'm so glad they put the effort into remastering the show and making it a proper release, unlike FUNi with Slayers and Trigun. Same issues with these releases as well and this really makes the show hard to watch at times.

This OVAs was one of the first shows that I had falling in love with and got me into anime.

I agree plus hopefully the Affair Of Nolandia review also covers the animation differences (as seen here).

I'm wondering why it's being reviewed again. I was under the impression that there was a review of the DVD's when they firs t came out. Did this change to bluray or something?

I remember seeing these when they were broadcast on Showtime Beyond. A shame that the tv series wasn't dubbed into English. That would have been great.

I thought FUNi's Slayers boxsets looked great, MUCH better than anything CPM had released of the series. FUNi did remaster it somewhat, but not too much. The footage was still very watchable. Razz

I think ADV tried to get the license to the TV series, but was unsuccessful. I do wish Nozomi could've at least tried to dub it (yes, there is some stuff in their sub-only catalog that is famous enough to make a profit despite large dubbing costs, and Dirty Pair is certainly one of them). I think if they played their cards right, Dirty Pair could've been a big hit. I would LOVE to watch the TV series in English.

Project Eden is a 90 minute film not an OVA.

You got it confused with 1985's Affair On Nolandia. Which was the first DP OVA to be released.

I think Erin reviewed it first in her separate-from-official-ANN-reviews column.

That would be a problem because it's pretty well known that the original Music & Effects tracks are no longer available due to being lost in a studio fire back in the 90s. This is why ADV had to produce their own for the OVA dub and why for anime with similar problems (like The Five Star Stories), they didn't bother dubbing at all.

Just in case there is some confusion, the Dirty Pair OVA series is dubbed. Whether or not it is a Nozomi dub, or an older one; I cannot say. But it is dubbed.

Received it yesterday from RightStuf. Watched the first four episodes already. Had no problem with it or the music.

I am partial to the OVA character designs over the TV ones, but it is all good for me. Dirty Pair series is one of my favorite shows from that time period, not counting Flash. This is one of the shows that got me "indoctrinated" into anime, with the finality of a coffin lid sealing. So it is fantastic for all this Dirty Pair material to be released, so I can now lay my laserdiscs down to rest.

Think it has to be said also, that much thanks must be given to Adam Warren for his take on the Lovely Angels. It was a wonderful drink of water in this desert, of no Kei and Yuri.

It's ADV's dub, Nozomi stopped dubbing back in 2007 (with their last dub being The Third-The Girl With The Blue Eye) and haven't dubbed anything since then.

Well, I could definitely tolerate a replacement music track if it's absolutely necessary to get an English dub. They would have a legitimate excuse for this. Besides, they could really do a lot with it. They could have a composer base the replacement score off of the original, but still give it an 80s flavor. Of course, this would involve the original sheet music, but it can be done.
