I agree pretty much with everything that Rebecca wrote about this volume. Furthermore, I too love the higher quality book. I hope everybody buys a copy so they can continue to publish this story. My only criticism is that I found this volume to be a little choppy for some reason. I only read it once so maybe my impression is incorrect, but I felt the previous two volumes flowed a little better.

No, I think you're right - it was a little choppier. I think that's because of the Pariya chapter smack in the middle of the book and spoiler[Mori's attempts to integrate the Amir/Karluk storyline into the present one.]

I've had my copy for more than a month, and I love the book. Yeah, it's not quite a smooth transition from one story to the next, but it's still quite beautiful to look at. It was nice to learn more about where they are geographically and in history. I look forward to the next book (whenever it happens to come out) and seeing who comes into the story...

I've just read 2 first volume and I'm not sure I'll be buying this one. The art is awesome but storywise it's a little meh. Emma was much better.

personally i quite enjoy the little distraction chapters. it adds a bit of padding to the seting of the story.

Hm. I've been meaning to look at this for a long while given the beautiful art and interesting plot, but the fact that a character is actually an Anthropologist (I'm studying to be one myself--specifically a Linguist, though not a field one) is the clincher. I'm gonna see to getting this soon.

I made a point not to read this review 'til I'd read vol.3 (which I finally did today) so I wanted to pop in and comment. I'll admit, I was initially less enthusiastic upon hearing that this volume wouldn't continue the Amir/Karluk story but instead follow Mr. Smith. But in the end, the glimpse into the lives of these new characters won me over (as everyone's already mentioned, the amazing art doesn't hurt either-- for example, though it's just a tiny panel in the multipage marketplace sequence, those pomegranates positively sparkle!).
