As I once saw the sequels to the wonderful Around the World with Willy Fog, produced by the Spanish BRB without any involvement from the Japanese co-producers of the original, I really, really, I mean really, hope they know what they are doing this time around Confused ...

I certainly remember "The Mysterious Cities of Gold." I used to see it when it was on Nickelodeon when I was a kid. I'm not sure if it's going to show up here. I hope it does. I also hope the sequel is good and it doesn't tarnish the memory I have of the original series.

Yeah I noticed Taiwan's Wang Film was behind that sequel and it shows.

If not, we can always find someone who knows French and be happy with that out there in the fan-circulated realm I crawled out of.

We're suppose to have grown up and forgot all that. Wink
It's good to see the character designs haven't changed very much with slight improvements, though the VTOAL "bird" seems to have shrunk a bit. The backgrounds and shading is the best improvement.

Well, both the original scriptwriter and director (who are Frenchmen) are heading the project so that's a good thing at least. Actually, Studio Pierrot only co-produced the animation at the time.

Looks better than the U.S. Superbook, and some other revivals.

I hope this does well. Would be great to see Jean Chalopin work on a second series of his other popular work 'The Twins of Destiny'.

although I'm a huge fan of the old Mysterious Cities of Gold anime, I can't imagine this becoming a good sequel if it doesn't involve Japanese hands. I'll pass. Wink

I guess I am going to have to dust off my deluxe box set of the original, and watch it again, I am also one of the many who as a child watched this every day on nickelodeon, and can say at age 39 I still love anime, it is a shame the official R1 release is hard to find now, glad I have mine

Jean Chalopin wanted to aired this sequel sooner. But in Japan, MCoG didn't do very well in audience and so, the Studio Pierrot and all the Japan cast involded in the old serie didn't wanted to be in the new one.
That's why, he had to buy all the former rights individually and set them all in a new group he created just the occasion. And he was the mastermind behind the success of the 1st serie, so I'm really eager to see the new one..

P.S. Wow, 2 posts in 6 years in ANN, that's totally crazy, lol.

Yes, I'll have a 3rd post, and once again, about MCoG. In France, the new series just began to air (2 eps at that time). Because they're showing them at a time where I'm not at house (damn, why would I need to work ?) I'll need to check them on internet. My first feeling about the show will come in about 30 mins and I'll know if I'm gonna be hooked again or not.

Edit:
Just watched the 1st double episode "Retour à Barcelone". Based upon the trailer on Youtube, I could have guessed most of the show. But nevermind, I liked them. The comical duet of Pedro & Sancho still works well, Mendoza is still cool (even if you know he always thinks of himself 1st ^^) and the parrot, Picchu adds some fun. The new vilain, is too close to be Dark Vador but the king, Charles Quint is quite near the real one.
Not too much 3D effects, so no disappointments with bad 3D. But I rant a bit with the fact than the Golden Condor now has some reactors behind Confused
For now, the storyline seems too easy to understand for adults, but this sequel is made for a children's show, so maybe it's just me that wanted something with a bit more of a scenario. But I'll keep following this, just to check if it could be better.
