He more recently appeared opposite Jaden Smith in the remake of The Karate Kid in 2010. Chan said he would still star in a hypothetical Karate Kid 2 or Rush Hour 4, but he is ready for more drama-based roles.

Oh f*** no. Do drama based roles, and don't feed the ego of Will Smith.

I've always been a fan of Jackie Chan. I'm glad he's still going to do acting.

I want to post a correction to the author of the article.

According to Jackie Chan's official Facebook page [ http://www.facebook.com/jackie ]:

Quote:
Hello all my friends and fans,

Yesterday in my press conference in Cannes for Chinese 12 Zodiac I said that this movie was my last big action movie.

Today I was shocked when I woke up to read all the news coverage that I was retiring from doing Action movies.

I just want to let everyone know that I am not retiring from doing action movies. What I meant to say is that I need to do less of the life risking stunts on my movies. After all these years of doing so many stunts and breaking so many bones, I need to take better care of my body so I can keep working.

I will continue to do international action movies.

And I will keep improving my English Smile

I love all of you!

Jackie

My response to Jackie's post:

Quote:
I think you made the right choice, Jackie. Sadly, as we all get older our bodies don't move like it used to. At least now we can still see you in action movies that don't require life risking stunts. I can't wait to see your next movie and I will go see Chinese 12 Zodiac for sure. Smile

I'm glad there won't be life risking stunts anymore after this movie because I think all of us fans worry everytime thinking the worst. I wonder what new movies you have coming up soon? Are you doing any with Jet Li and Chuck Norris? (that would be AWESOME!)

Anyway, I hope this clears up some things for everyone.

I really liked him in the Karate Kid remake. It made me think that he would be well suited for more dramatic roles. Also I can't blame him, at his age the martial arts must be an even bigger pain in the ass to pull off.

Glad to see he isn't actually retiring from action movies so much as the big dangerous stunts.

I'm a big fan of Jackie Chan's movies --- Wheels on Meals, First Strike, Thunderbolt and Police Story are probably my favorite live-action movies in general. It's a shame that his brand of martial arts comedy doesn't seem to be made much anymore, and I was additionally disappointed when I first heard some years ago that he was becoming more interested in dramatic acting than the funny international action that he popularized at the height of his career. It will be the passing of a legend when he finally retires from the movie business, but it's good to hear that he still has some years left in him.

Sadly sometimes the mind is willing but body can no longer do. I'm just glad he realized it before killed or something. Guy earned the right slow down after all the movies and stunts has done.

Should also add that Jackie Chan dressed up in an Arale-chan costume in My Lucky Stars.

I miss Jackie Chan and the days when his movies were made in Hong Kong, they're still easily his best works, and didn't rely on special effects. Crying or Very sad

To see this is his last big action movie is just depressing. He's probably the only real action star of today. People these days are just pussies who only use special effects to pull off stunts even if they're healthy and young. Sad

I understand he would like to be taken more seriously, but when he does dramatic roles, he hams it up too much, and comes off boring. [See Heart of Dragon, Black Dragon, and Gorgeous.]

I remember the days that my parents always gets me many of Jackie Chan's best movies and I always watch them all in a heartbeat! I always feel nostalgic watching them and now, he's making his last big action movie with Chinese Zodiac and judging by the trailer, he's going out in a bang and I like it!

Good luck with your dramatic roles, Jackie! Sure, despite some controversies regarding your political views, you're still my childhood hero growing up.

Man, it's just going to be so sad for me to see Jackie's last big action movie and Hong Kong action will never be the same without him or Jet Li being around. Crying or Very sad
