Already bought the 2 Tokyopoop box sets. Maybe this will have a slightly better transfer and hopefully better subs. Looking forward to it.

This was essentially my face when reading the news. Love me some GTO, can't wait to be able to own a good edition that doesn't have its price ratcheted up so high.

Discotek! How many times have I told you to stop hogging the awesome? Evil or Very Mad

Yeah, I just hope they end up seeing profits on all these nobody-woulda-expected licenses.

I'll buy it just cause it'll probably take up less room than my two part Funimation box sets. For some time I speculated if the GTO anime will ever be re-licensed again, but after hearing this news I was thrilled that it's coming back in print again for the USA.

Funimation NEVER had the series, TokyoPop was the company that that licensed it and got it dubbed.

FUNimation was the distributor for two box sets back in 2007. I'm fairly certain that it was the TP dub and such, but they were the ones who put them out.

It's true. I've seen those two boxsets with my own eyes, and they do indeed have FUNimation's logo on them.

Great news! I've been waiting for a license rescue.

I discovered the series for the first time about 2 years ago but didn't want to pay high prices for OOP box sets and I wasn't sure if I wanted to hunt down singles.

Thank you Discotek! You can expect a purchase from me! Very Happy

FUNimation was the distributor and Tokyopop was the licensor. GTO was one of the anime titles in the distribution agreement back in 2006. Other titles in the distribution agreement included Initial D (Stage 1 & 2/Extra Stage) and Marmalade Boy (never re-released due to expiration of the first 24 episodes).

No interest in GTO as I own the manga (all 25 shelf space-hoggin' volumes of it).

But I am excited about finally getting a release date for the awesomely awful (or awfully awesome) Mad Bull 34. The end of February seems a long way off, though Sad

I have the Tokyo Pop Versions in the nice artboxes so i'll pass BUT i'm glad this is getting rereleased as it certainly needs to be around at a price that anyone can get it for. Probably the funniest Anime of the 90's if not ever!

I managed to buy the 10 GTO volumes used for $50 a little while ago, so I'm good - but I'm very happy for those who wanted the series but were having a hard time finding it at a decent price. Plus, now you get to buy a brand new set instead of used. Very nice, Discotek!

Shonan Junai-gumi, being released in the US as GTO The Early Years, is not a prequel.

It was published from 1990 to 1996 while GTO was published from 1997-02 to 2002-04. GTO is the sequel to Shonan Junai-gumi

I was lucky enough to find the 10 singles (8 of them new) for about $75. But yeah, great news for those who want to own this cool series.
