How did Samurai Kings beat out Samurai 7? Samurai 7 is a far greater show then Samurai Kings and according to the ANN ratings on both shows I'm not the only one that thinks this. The Samurai Kings movie has a median rating of "so-so" while the series is "decent". Samurai 7 on the other hand has a median rating of "very good". The results of last weeks poll are a mystery to me.

I always loved the llittle touches in the Bush scene like the shoe next to his head and the Texas Rangers logo on the wall. I just wish the subtitled versions were still available on YouTube. |

Most likely: New Hotness vs. Old & Busted. Duran Duran is clearly better than Bieber as pretty-boy pop acts go, but who would win a poll today? (Also: difference of 2 votes. Additional mellowness required.) (Also also: there's a difference between "how many people like a thing" and "how strongly do they like it". Reverse McDonalds Argument wins polls.) (Also also also: Neither one really represents "the sengoku era", but some people probably didn't think mecha and starships made for a good sengoku-era show. (disclaimer: I haven't seen much of Kings, so maybe they eventually get to mecha and spaceships from internal-combustion horses.)) |

The mystery is what Samurai 7 is even doing on that list, seeing that it's not supposed to take place in the Sengoku era... The movie it's very loosely based on, yes. The anime? Not any more than Gankutsuou takes place in 19th century France. Samurai 7 has its own world that has nothing whatsoever to do with the Sengoku era in Japan. Also, as someone who really wanted to like Samurai 7 and ended up very disappointed with it, Sengoku Basara/Samurai Kings (what is this English title anyway?) was loads more fun with much more endearing characters so I'd definitely choose it over Samurai 7.
Again, Samurai 7 does not take place in the Sengoku era... By the way, Samurai Kings has a mecha (or a full-body cyborg the size of a Gundam). No spaceships, though, and the horses aren't cyborgs... they're definitely not your everyday horses, though. |

IIRC, Jack the Ripper also shows up in one of the Detective Conan/Case Closed movies(Phantom of Baker Street). Although he doesn't get much screen time in it, the character is oddly drawn to look like a cross-dresser.
