Looks promising enough with everyone from Tien to Gotenks getting involved though how well they will be used will definitely leave something to be desired.

Hope it doesn't end with a conclusive Kamehameha into the Sun, perhaps with some support from friends and family... They seem to be confronting each in space in some shots (the Kamehameha as well), so I'm looking forward to some fan wank as some people attempt to accept it into canon as Toriyama is involved.

Glad that the antagonists are just these two guys so far, not the typical big bad and his three cronies ranging from big to weird to kinda normal.

Dragon Ball fans more than any other group seem to have trouble accepting the concept of canon. Probably because the anime is so much more wankable the manga.

Or as Piccolo would say: "Pretty one, stupid one, one with strange powers."

You're going to judge animation by a low quality cam shot video on YOUTUBE?

Get serious.

You should re-watch Season 3 of the Funimation Dub back in Sean Schemmel's early days.

I can't hear Kouichi Yamadera's voice in Bils/Burisu at all. It's definitely different from the roles I've heard him in.

Or he simply forgot about that Son Goku couldn't breath in space. Toriyama is known for forgetting alot of things. Toriyama most certainly has control over the character designs and story, but most people forget that he's not involved in the screenplay itself. His involvement in the project seems to be just as much as he was involved in the Bardock Special and Dragon Ball Online. Just slightly more so, since he's been involved in the beginning.

Granted, the trailer doesn't showcase Nozawa's best work, but she's the best voice Goku's ever had, largely because she can actually act, and has Goku's personality and speech quirks down perfectly. That delivery is priceless.

Certainly preferable to Sean Schemmel.

Toriyama's involvement with this project seems to be significantly more than he had to do with the Bardock TV special, which was written by Takao Koyama with character designs by Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru. Toriyama redid the majority of the character designs for Bardock's main crew (and adjusted their names), but that was the extent there -- his main claim to fame with Bardock was simply that he liked that special so much. He's mentioned it half a dozen times in interviews over the last decade (and he obviously tossed Bardock into the manga for two panels), so it definitely left an impression.

But "Battle of Gods" is the first instance of he himself coming out and saying (and quoting here, just 'because!), "It's rare, or I should say, it's the first time, that I've been deeply involved with the animation from the scriptwriting stage."

And even then, Watanabe is the actual "scriptwriter" here... so it's tough. I'm definitely interesting in hearing more about what his particular role/work was, just for my own educational benefit! Who did he design? Which plot elements did he come up with, or did they possibly use from older stuff he's written/divulged? I'm all ears!

This is literally the first time ever that anyone from any rights-holders arena has come out and said something akin to "this is what we consider truth" -- their exact quote from the press release (translated, of course) is, "A new story in the official history of Dragon Ball is born, neither a spin-off nor a side-story, one that can be enjoyed by both children and parents, manga fans and anime fans."

Toriyama mentioned GT as a gaiden/side-story in his personal introduction to the DBGT Dragon Box in Japan, but that's the closest there's ever been to someone saying, "this doesn't count"... and that's reading an awful lot into it.

They've been far less concerned with defining a "canon" than most fans who seem to care about it. I'd wager they're saying that this time around more as promotional/hyping than anything else, kinda like, "Oh, but THIS TIME it's SUPER important!" (as opposed to things like "Episode of Bardock").

No Goku can't breathe in space. You want to know why? There's nothing in space to breathe. He's holding his breath. When he swims does he not need to come up for air? It's the same thing.
