I'm not entirely sure if she would count, but I think Yomiko Readman (from Read or Die) would be a good addition to this list.

I would of thought Yomiko was the obvious choice. Given the entire show is about combat librarians. Laughing

'I was surprised to see Cowboy Bebop's Ed win, mostly because I thought that series might have fallen out of favor by now.'

Cowboy Bebop may fall out of favor, but Ed never will. Razz

Aw crap, I almost forgot about Yomiko, and her bibilomaniac character. It's hard to believe that she got dropped even though she kicks more butts than Akane. Sometimes list like these need to have a few votes. At least, Dalian made it.

Wasn't Vivio just a child in StrikerS, probably because it's been long since I watched Nanoha, my memory is hazy.

Back to the new poll, with all the people who gave SAO Masterpiece, I'm afraid to see who will be the obvious couple now.

Last week I asked who is your favorite anime tech-genius. I was surprised to see Cowboy Bebop's Ed win

Unfortunately, it'll be many years before you can include a Cartoon-Network-aired show on a popularity-contest list and NOT have it flood out everything else. If you had picked one of the main characters for GITS (the Major was a pretty competent hacker) rather than the rarely-seen antagonist of one season, it would have been right up there, too. (Edit: or not, Haruhi has been seen by more people than GITS1. More info below.)

I mean, Nagato isn't even really a tech genius; she's an everything-genius. She's a hacker in the same way she's a martial artist, guitar player, spoiler[time traveler], or anything else she needs to be at the moment. She rated high because everyone and their grandma has seen Haruhi.

Even if a question is worded carefully, the fact that (pulling from the database here) Cowboy Bebop has been seen by 18000 of us and Dennou Coil by only 2000 means the voting pool is already skewed almost 10-to-1 in Bebop's favor. No one can say their favorite character, or the "best" character of a certain type, comes from a show they haven't seen.

(Edit: adding the following)

At the moment, seen-by numbers for the shows, in the order they won the "hacker" question by:

Cowboy Bebop: 18196
Haruhi season 1: 14021
GITS:SAC season 1: 9346
Sailor Moon season 1: 8102
Stein's;Gate: 2945
Lain: 6992
Negima: 2017
(...ratings below this don't mean much since they all scored only 1-3% on the hacker poll...)

...the only one out of place is Stein's;Gate, which we can give to recency bias (many of the folks who said they watched the other shows aren't active members here reading The List now.) So "favorite/best hacker" got basically the same results as "have you seen this show?"

Exactly!

as far as the new poll, I must question whats up with the lack of Oreki and Chitanda, especially considering we're counting Tsunemori and Kogami *rant rant rant rant rant pointles ranting is pointless*

Yomiko is a favorite character of mine but as a far as I remember, she's just a huge bookworm, not a librarian.

Yup, she, and the three from ROD the TV, are just bibliophiles, though spoiler[Yomiko does live in a library in RODTV].

Do people who are both librarian and library count? Index! (I don't know if Dalian has memorized all her books or just has access to them, haven't seen the show. Though I guess I can see leaving Index out since they're the same character; just-past-loli with an infinite supply of evil books on hand.)

Whole list I was looking for Yomiko Readman and couldn't find her.

She does work for the British Library...so thats like a librarian right?

The latest poll is going to be quite a slobber-knocker. I only have 3 guesses as to who will be the winners, though.

Agreed. I would definitely have voted for Oreki and Chitanda. They're well on the way to being a couple (and the OP and ED give an even stronger indication) - there are definitely romantic feelings coming from both sides. Many of the so-called couples on the list really aren't (or at least, not yet).

In some cases, the couple chosen appears to be somewhat arbitrary. For example, I would argue that the main couple in Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? is not Ayuma and Haruna but instead Ayumu and Eucliwood. This one definitely seems contrary to the "not choosing who you would prefer" criterium.

I'd have even excluded Mutta and Serika - despite all of Mutta's wishes, they're nothing more than good friends at this point.

Loved Book of Bantorra so that was pretty awesome to see more recognition. Also, I agree that it'd be pretty impossible to choose just one for this list from that show since there are so many cool characters lol. Mattalast is freaking badass though and the bond thing yeah so he's a damn good choice. Smile

I really doubt either of them will ever fall out of favor Very Happy Either way Ed sure won't. Smile

I guess this is indeed true. Otherwise I'd say she'd have been a shoe-in. Yomiko rocks Smile

With all the hype SAO got, I'm surprised if Kirito and Asuna aren't in the top 3 of the poll next week.

I was able to narrow the poll down to two pretty easily, and then it was just a matter of a coin flip. Some of the couples are more of the "I wish they were couples" on the part of the poll maker it seems. Take for instance Kokoro Connect. It seemed pretty obvious to me that the main couple is more likely Iori and Taichi. Now, I like the though of Taichi and Himeko much, much more, but that was, as of the end of the anime, more one sided than a mutual thing. Iori and Taichi seemed like they were more on the cusp of actually being a couple.

Also, boo-urns to the lack of Chitanda and Oreki. That's an obvious couple there if I ever saw one, and that would have made my choice a lot harder.
