I found Is this A Zombie to be surprisingly solid especially episode six which is hands down the best episode in the series outside of the final episode of course. If anyone should be praised from the english dub its easily Lindsay Seidel as Kyoko she was excellent. Morgan Garrett was also great as Seraphim considering she is new to voice over which is no small feat for a rookie voice actress. Its the best english dub I've seen from Tyler Walker since Hell Girl. I'm looking forward to the second season.

I have re-watched this series many times on Hulu and Funmation.com but I refuse to buy a DVD.
Not really interested in a dub so it can wait.

The series is just a pointless comedy which is what makes it best. Season 2 casts off most of the seriousness and turns up the fun which I find entertaining. I don't really need some bloody bad guy to fight.

Seraphim the vampire's voice is done by Yōko Hikasa, who also plays houki in infinite stratos. She always slurs her S'sssss. It amuses me greatly. Also, how Eucliwood has a new fantasy voice each episode is enjoyable. Wedding ayumu is also entertaining, just how cute can he become?

I don't know about C+ on the art, maybe that is harsh. The show looks very good in HD.

I bought it and enjoyed it. The only thing I didn't like was the wasteful packaging (two regular DVD cases instead of a double case).

Can someone explain what is meant by the category art versus animation. And what show would get an A in that category. Hell Range murata cant work on every show. I am more than fine with what I see visually in this show.

I'm pretty sure art means the character designs themselves, while animation is how good they look when they are moving, regardless of the style (or basically whether or not they had a decent animation budget for the show and if they had to take shortcuts to save money).

For example, xxxHolic has some great designs to work with but the animation in that series was dreadful, with proportions changing constantly and it just ended up looking pretty terrible. Which is why in this review, the series received a B+ for art and a D for animation. It's also one of the main reasons I've never bought the series, even though I love the manga (along with the fact that the second season isn't licensed and the first season changes the order of events around enough that it disrupts the character development).

Art means more than just characters, it's the design of the entire anime. Backgrounds, characters, objects, color palette, color tone, design, etc. Animation is the way things move, how much effort was put into making movement smooth or non-static.

Waiting for the bluray. They take a long time to come out, it's very irritating.

You could be in for a very long wait in this case, as for recent titles Funimation typically doesn't release Blu-Rays at all if it's not in the initial release.

Definitely true, I shouldn't have just said character designs, though those are probably the most important/prominent part of the art, at least for the majority of series.

It has nothing to do with Funimation. The original distributor does not want R1 distributors releasing their IP's on blu ray because of reverse importation. Since we have the same Blu Ray region as Japan, it costs them 1/3 for the R1 release, then their native blu ray release in Japan. Just check Amazon.jp, check out the anime and you'lll always see the top 10 sellers, which are always R1 Blu Ray's.

Doesn't help that the JP BD boxset just came out in October, either.

That's also another great point. From reading, listeining and keeping an eye on the R1 market, the Japanese license holders, always have a set time frame, 6-9 months for the R1 release, after the original Japanese release, because they make alot more money on their Blu Ray sales, then the R1 companies do.

It's been less than 90 days since the Japanese Blu Ray release; http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=KAXA-4900

Once they cash in on all of the purchases, Funimation will most likely put our an R1 Blu Ray release. Though this probably won't be for another 6-9 months or more.

It's just simple economics and cost-benefit analysis from their point of view and the business model of R1 companies.

Are you sure about this? I just went to amazon.co.jp. and I browsed BD's for animation. But I did not see any R1 BD releases on the top 10 of popularity. http://www.amazon.co.jp/s/ref=amb_link_13349006_5?ie=UTF8&rh=n%3A562020%2Cp_n_binding_browse-bin%3A622812011&pf_rd_m=AN1VRQENFRJN5&pf_rd_s=browse&pf_rd_r=01K6200Z6QTE7FCCZTS7&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=124126949&pf_rd_i=562020

Others have also pointed out that R1 BD releases are very sought after in Japan, but I have not found evidence on Amazon Japan, at least. For the record, I do believe that reverse importation exists, but I do not think it is that great of a problem.

I've always been confused by the low Art scores ANN has given this show. Zombie has some of my favorite character designs of the last couple years, especially Eu and Haruna. I guess maybe they're not grading it on if the characters look cute or attractive (which is how I do), but if the art looks unique or something? I dunno, all I know is that its very pleasing on the eyes and I wish more shows used its art style.

with Haruna and Mael even looking a little too similar.

And I don't understand this one at all.

How do Haruna and Yuki look similar at all other than both having short hair? They have different hair colors, one has a petite body, the other is stacked and taller... they're both very distinctive characters. That just sounds like someone who thinks all anime looks the same and can't tell the difference between characters, and you'd think someone who watches as much anime as Theron wouldn't be like that...
