They expect to sell this show in America without a dub? Dear god, what were they thinking?

They were thinking 'this show will sell to the particular audience we want to sell it to', and by the looks of your comment that isn't you. It must have sold well enough for them to fast track the release of Nisemonogatari anyway. Anyway as for the review I'm not quite sure the comment about Koyomi being generic really fits the bill. Especially since later on in the review you go into detail about his quirks such as his evil streak etc. Small gripe though in an otherwise fitting review. |

Cue sh*tstorm of people incessantly complaining about the price and the lack of a dub. To them I pre-emptively say this: get over it. If you can't (or won't) afford it, or you are part of the "no dub no sale" crowd, then you are not the target audience and never were. So if you want to complain then send your concerns to AoA.
I for one will be buying this release ASAP. I can't wait.
Understatement of the year already. It is the third best-selling Anime series of all time (behind Neon Genesis Evangelion and Gundam 0079), and the second-best if we exclude re-releases. ---------- I think this was a fair review which touched nicely on the show's good and bad points. I too would have given it an A-. |

At that price, they don't need a dub. They know exactly how many they will sell, and thus, priced it so that they make a hefty profit.

Or they've set it a price which allows them to actually make a profit at all. I'm pretty sure Bakemonogatari would've been a fairly expensive series to license. |

So how much does it cost to manufacture one of these sets? Because that has to figure into any evaluation of price points. Would halving the profit per unit more than double the sales? Is this actually the optimal price? Or does Aniplex really just not know what they're doing?

Got my set as a late birthday present and I can easily say best birthday present ever. I love this show and I agree with everything Theron said is his review, especially Hitagi being a positive

This has become my favorite show. Everything's great about it. I did enjoy Nisemonogatari a bit less, so I'm going to wait a bit before buying it, but I do not regret buying this one, and can't wait to see the other series. Despite it not being purely a comedy, I found it funnier at times than some other anime and non-anime comedies.

I was really impressed with these. One nice thing is that they only cover what has been revealed in the story so far. Future events are only hinted at. I watched the commentary after I completed each episode and really learned a lot. It's entertaining too. |

I can't really agree with the second paragraph comparing it to a Key adaptation since it may follow the formula, but only enough to completely subvert it. The main male lead doesn't really do much in the way of solving their problems. Though if you were trying to imply that it does subvert it with the "Shatters preconceptions" then I think it needed to be worded a bit clearer.
Hitagi Crab spoiler[Hitagi+Oshino got rid of the crab while Araragi stood around doing nothing, a point which they joke about in the Character Commentaries. She's also the only one who falls for him because of the events in the show.] Mayoi Mai Mai spoiler[Hitagi+Oshino find a way home for Mayoi. Also Rather than Mayoi falling for Araragi it's more accurate to say Araragi Fell for Mayoi] Suruga Monkey spoiler[Hitagi+Oshino come up with and enact the plan that get's rid of the rainy devil. As for falling for Araragi Her entire interactions with Araragi can pretty much be summed up as(I hope you'll excuse my language) "Goddamn Lesbian Cocktease"] Nadeko Snake spoiler[Araragi does the ceremony for Nadeko, but screws it up and the curse gets sent to someone else (Something which wouldn't have happened if Oshino had done the ceremony), not to mention Kanbaru had to save him from the snake. ] Tsubasa Cat spoiler[and it's Black Hanekawa who brings Araragi under the streetlight so that shinobu can come out to save him and get rid of Black hanekawa. ] Other than that he review was a little dry especially for the longer paragraphs, however I am glad you mentioned the composer as he does do a great job on the Soundtrack. Also Kudos for actually mentioning what the character commentaries are rather than just saying they exist. |

Can't believe no one has pointed this out yet: the director is Akiyuki Shinbo. Honest mistake, but a big one since his stank is unmistakably on every millisecond of the show.

I usually only buy dub but Aniplex is getting a few series that I really want so just buying those like Nisemonogatari and
Bakemonogatari here |

I think to really understand Bakemonogatari you need to have a passing familiarity with the typical Japanese supernatural detective fiction. I think Kyogoku's Summer of Ubume is a good example of what I'm talking about.
