Even if it was news, please don't make more people know about a site (Variety) that is so dumb and uninformed, going as far as saying One Piece is a "kiddy toonpic" (even though it has a better plot (I don't care if you disagree, it's an objective 100% fact) than anything else, and a world build among the best, and claimed it's audience is mostly little boys, despite, you know, 88% of the manga's audience being over 18.

Good for Dragonball though, we are most likely getting more movies and the profit might grant them higher budget.

But that's all completely true, so I don't see the problem.

I'll just take a stab and guess it all ends with a genkidama.

So... can we have a new canonical series that retcons GT? That'd be great...

No. It's what an ignorant moron would think, unless you're trolling.

I don't want 20th Century Fox within 1000 miles of this movie if this comes to America! It should be handled by FUNimation alone!

Well first of all, you're citing the manga, not the anime. Remember, it may be the best selling manga but it's not the most popular anime. Second, that doesn't change the fact it's still a children's comic/cartoon series first and foremost. But the thing is a lot of popular series can claim they're mostly watched or read by adults so it's not exactly a unique feature. Detective Conan, Toriko, Naruto and pretty much any series based on a long-running manga you'll find has a bigger adult viewership, mainly because the kids who used to watch it still watch it as adults while new kids hop on board so it'll always skew more towards adults.

The more expensive IMAX tickets help that gross too.

The target is teenagers and the results make it a far more complex work. It is definitely not a children's comic

But I thought teenagers are children Laughing. I like One Piece, but I don't think it is some deep philosophical masterpiece or anything.

I know many, many Asians in their mid-thirties who have outgrown anime/manga but they are still huge fans of One Piece. I don't think One Piece is as childish as most people in the west think it is, but still, it started out for kids. Besides all those deep stuffs that One Piece has, I thought we are watching it for the "childish" parts too, lol.
