Nice Bakuman manga collection tbh. Shame the series ended recently with the final episode.
Oh, and I am also looking forward to Phi-Brain: Puzzle of God season 3 in the future. |

RE: The shelves. Nice, but those manga volumes stored at an angle make my heart hurt. I want to reach through my screen and reshelve them all SO BAD.

Also, I tried to give Bamboo the benefit of the doubt on the Listen to Me Girls recommendation, but I couldn't even get through the review without feeling like I needed a shower. I mean, there's cheap fanservice and then there's everyone find your buddy and get back on the bus, sort of stuff. Maybe too personal, but it triggers memories of being taken advantage of by a family member who used to babysit me (I was 5 and 6, the girls in that show are 3, 10 and 14). He figured as long as he didn't physically lay a hand on me he could have me do whatever weird, fetishistic stuff he wanted. Uggggh. Not okay. NOPE. I thought we agreed as a society not to approve of voyeuristic behavior towards children, even if it starts with enjoying an animated 3-year-old phallating an inanimate object. I don't mean to be a pearl-clutching, shit-starter, free country and all, but that is a HARD pass. HARD PASS.

It's a pretty good show I thought. Nothing I'll sing praises to the high heavens for, or claim it must be seen by all anime viewers ever. But I didn't find the fanservice THAT over the top. You notice it, but it didn't really detract like it has during other shows. The youngest daughter was just so adorable I'll admit I didn't even notice any phallic food she was chomping on. Though little kids eat things...sometimes a hot dog is just a hot dog folks

Hold on. Didn't Bamboo criticize Listen to Me Girls, I'm Your Father! during an episode of ANNCast last year when Theron Martin tried to convince her that it was actually a pretty good show?
Something like "I was screaming at my screen, telling the girl to not f*ck her uncle!" and so on. |

I remember her saying that the kids needed to stop eating dick-shaped food. But something miraculous occurs when you watch the entire anime, and not just an episode or two. |

I kind of like Hyakko's character design. In an entertainment industry obsessed with visual appeal it's kind of interesting to see a teenager who's gangly and jug-eared. Torako also manages to be an immature teenager character who acts like an immature teenager and not an elementary-school kid.
I wouldn't peg Listen to Me Girls, I'm Your Father! as shelf-worthy myself. The good parts are pretty good, but the "putzing around the apartment, having cutesy-poo shopping adventures, or eating phallic foods" part is just way too great a proportion of the total running-time for me to consider it to actually be good. I also though that spoiler[the oldest girl's crush on the male lead played way too large a part in the climax. It wasn't just uninteresting, it beggared belief and ignored the other two girls.] |

There is no such agreement. Even if there was one, it would only apply to the United States. People in the United States are supposedly free to make their choices on what they like and what they dislike. Glad to see "Hyakko" being reviewed. I picked it up at the Anime Castle showroom last week on Long Island. Saw it awhile ago and liked it. Never thought it would be picked up, though that changed when "A-Channel" was picked up. Wasn't interested in "Listen to Me Girls, I'm Your Father!" when it was broadcasted. Seemed a bit like "KissXSis" from the synopsis. So much already to watch, so this one will probably sit on the back burner for awhile. I don't like puzzles in my games, so never considered watching "Phi-Brain". Though I do like over-the-top villains, so will need to search out those TV specials, since they appear to be needed. |

I actually really have been wanting to edit listen to me girls I am your father into a movie. editing out as much of the fan service and unnecessary things as possible to give the show the focus it obviously wanted to do at first before they had to add stuff in.

^ This. On another note, I think I'm the type of person who would actually be more productive working at home despite the distractions. But that would depend on me having a separate room that I could call a home office, just so the productivity atmosphere would be there and I could tailor it exactly to my needs rather than a standardized cubicle that I currently work in. My home is not adequate for a home office setup, however. |

I don't think I'll be watching Listen to me Girls, I'm your Father. For me, it is not even really just the creep factor. I can enjoy creepy shows to a certain degree and find something interesting in them, even the blatant ecchi ones. I've said many times that I actually watched Kanokon all the way through and, as disturbing as many parts of it were, I found the overall theme and plot device to be really kind of interesting and even enjoyable. I liked the main character a lot, even though his main love interest was usually insufferable and his secondary love interest was kind of a bland tool. However, the whole "combine into one person to battle evil" thing was kind of cool. This was way before Vividred Operation and all its flashy colored yuri girls.
All that being said, I have a much harder time with the shows who try to make us take them deadly seriously, while at the same time engaging in the blatant crude fan-servicy stuff which totally undercuts the seriousness of the show. Ultimately, I could watch all of the ridiculous ecchi stuff in Kanokon because the show was in no way presented as a serious show. It was clearly presented as a ridiculous, magical ecchi show which was just pushing the envelope in every manner possible. I think Listen to me Girls is going to leave me rolling my eyes constantly as it tries to tackle serious traumatic subjects, while sprinkling in girls eating dick shaped foods and an "innocent" uncle "accidentally" walking in on his naked young nieces. |

Papakiki is probably the most fringe "shelf-worthy" show that Bamboo has rated as such. I honestly thought she would rate it as a Rental or even Perishable. Nonetheless, I took the bait and bought the series. I enjoyed it. But I would never loan it to a friend or let anyone know that I've watched it. I would not have noticed the "phallic-shaped" food that Hina was putting in her mouth if someone hadn't pointed it out, first. The dream that Sora has, where her younger sister is "dressing her up" for her wedding, was a little excessive as well.
It really depends on how you look at this show. Is it drama with some salacious fanservice? Or is an ecchi show that tries to be serious, as ChibiKangaroo says it is? |

I suppose it's happened before, but it struck me as odd that the Shelf Obsessed pictures are all of manga and games, when the Shelf Life column is about anime.
(My shelves are all anime and figures, but no manga, so also a bit odd.) |
