Yes I heard about this a few days ago via Dramafever's Facebook page. Nice to see Japan is allowing this J-drama to be stream (actually I could find 5 or 6 J-dramas on Crunchyroll). But I wish Japan could export more J-drama because I can find 100 K-dramas, and after K-dramas got so popular; Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore have started to subtitled and export their dramas to western audience and streamed on Dramafever, and Crunchyroll. Also Japan can get more cooler not only because of anime and manga, but J-dramas could help attract more people including anime fans to get to know Japan better using J-drama. It worked for K-drama, and after people watched K-dramas, a lot of people became more fascinated with South Korea more and more. Hence why K-drama and K-pop is now becoming popular and South Korea is becoming the "new Japan" when it comes to pop culture export.
Also I talked to fans of tokusatsu/Super Sentai fans and I agreed with them: if people can watch K-dramas and other Asian dramas, then why can't Super Sentai and Kamen Rider be stream on Crunchyroll and Dramafever. I don't see Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, and tokusatsu shows being any different from any Asian drama other then it's foreign and not in English. To Saban and Toei: If you are reading this, look at K-dramas, they're popular and people are watching it on Hulu, Dramafever, and Crunchyroll. Guess what, Dramafever said majority of the audience that watch K-drama on that site are non-Asian. Because of the popularity of K-drama, other dramas from Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan are getting subbed and stream on those sites. So what's the risk of showing Super Sentai, and Kamen Rider in subbed, uncut, and streamed using Dramafever, Crunchyroll as the main sources for people to watch. Put it on and every Toku fans will watch it, and who knows fans of Super Sentai and Kamen Rider could end up watching other Asian dramas including K-dramas if you put tokusatsu shows on Dramafever, and Crunchyroll. So what are you waiting for Saban and Toei??? Isn't K-drama popularity and how it allowed other Asian dramas to be shown to western/non-Asian audience is enough evidence to justify streaming Super Sentai and Kamen Rider on Crunchyroll and Dramafever. Trust me, Sentai and Kamen Rider fans will love you for having those shows stream on Crunchyroll and Dramafever!!! |

I'd love to have Akibaranger streamed personally. It was my first foray into live-action (other than GTO live action series years and years ago and a few spare episodes of Hana Yori Dango/Gokusen live action that I'd watch at cons) and it was a lot of fun.

A lot of people on Dramafever wants Japan to export and allow J-dramas to be streamed and that include Tokusatsu shows because as most Sentai fans said: If people can watch K-dramas and other Asian dramas, then how can tokusatsu be any different. It's not only J-drama people are complaining about, a lot of J-pop fans and me have complain and criticize Japan for not using the K-pop popularity to export J-pop. Meaning a lot of our J-pop group and artists could gotten the same level of popularity like K-pop artists beyond anime fandoms. It's true we have J-pop concerts at anime con, and Ayumi Hamasaki has done concerts in Europe (but never in the US) but I never seen Japan having something like SMTown concert, United Cube Concert, or Music Bank World Tour. I do believe J-pop could replicate the same success like K-pop outside of Asia if Japan had uploaded a lot of J-pop music video on Youtube or giving J-pop concerts on the same scale as SMTown concerts and United Cube concert. A lot of anime fans have said that Japan didn't learn anything from the Korean Wave/K-pop explosion, Japan could've take advantage of the K-pop explosion to give J-pop the same international treatement like K-pop. |

Here's a cool news regarding the Japanese live-action Itazura na Kiss, it looks like the cast of that show has gave a shoutout to Dramafever and their international audiences for watching the show. How nice of them to do this. Hopefully this will lead to more J-dramas (maybe even Tokusatsu being stream on Dramafever if that ever happen).
Another good news!!! The Taiwanese drama adaptation of Itazura Na Kiss, It started with a Kiss and it's sequel They Kiss again is coming to Dramafever (and hopefully Hulu). So looks like any fans of Itazura na Kiss manga/anime can watch all drama adaptation of this great manga. I'm so excited for this news!!!  If any of you with Dramafever account want to get email notification on when this Drama will be shown, here's a link for It started with a Kiss, and They Kiss again. Log on and click on Receive new episode alerts, you'll get a email telling you the episodes is available for you to watch (I did it already).
Question I ponder: I wonder if all the casts from Taiwan, Korea, and Japan has met each other (and maybe a picture of them). That would be cool if they met each other in real life, it would sort of symbolize something. I would also love to see other countries (outside of Asia) to adapt Itazura Na Kiss. Like maybe Brazil, Mexico could adapt the story in a local setting. The story in Itazura na Kiss is unverisal, race and nationalities shouldn't matter, it's how good and faithful the story is adapted and how good the acting is. I wouldn't mind seeing a US adaptation of it as a miniseries not a movie. |
