Oda, finish the arc you're on, then take like a 2 month break.

Get well soon, Oda-san! You're a human first, mangaka second!

Jump can't afford to let Oda take such long break .

Yes, PLEASE watch your health, not just for the manga but in general too. As curious as I may be to see what sort of story he could tell after finishing One Piece, TAKE THE RETIREMENT.

Jump can't afford for him to have even longer off due to an even more serious illness, he needs to step back and take time off until he is 100% fighting fit... Fans will understand.

As TsunaReborn! said, if he gets seriously ill and can't work for several months then they'd really be screwed. He's their milk cow and they should be taking better care of him.

At least the japanese fans will. I hate to break it to you, but a lot of anime fans this side of the ocean are spoiled and entitled.

I hope also he has his intended ending written down somewhere and locked up in a safe just in-case, and just so he doesnt take it to the grave with him... T.T

A manga is on a week long Hiatus. In other news, "Naruto" just had a chapter this week.

Yeah they can't have Oda go on a long break, unlike Yoshihiro Togashi.

It will hurt them but it won't kill them. Jump survived Dragon Ball and Slam Dunk ending about 1 year apart and the circulation numbers falling dramatically around the same time as a result. Sunday and Magazine's situations are much worse than Jump's and yet they're still around.

Also, I know it's basically been admitted as normal on the internet but I still find it shocking how some people so freely say 'don't die before the manga ends !!!!' and stuff like that. How about 'Don't die because you're a human being with a wife and 2 kids and who's not even 40 years of age yet' instead ?

I think this is a good news, actually; he needs to rest (read: sleep) and fully recover, and he accepted the fact and he is doing it now.
Oda-sensei will have plenty of time to work on his manga (he isn't even 40 years old yet) and shouldn't overwork himself.

Still, there is worry lingering in the back of my mind... but I think this is normal: when you appreciate something to a certain extent, at one point you also start to care about the creator behind it.
