I've been watching Tsuritama on TAN. Episode 7 is the latest one up and it looks like it's taking that turn mentioned in the review with the next episode. While I always have enjoyed sci-fi, for this series I'd rather they just stick with the slice-of-life plot threads. The sci-fi elements just aren't very interesting, and a bit of an annoying distraction much as Haru can be, though that's luckily toned down over the series.
I just finished watching DxD last night and would agree with this review in general. It was enjoyable with some funny bits along with a good amount of fanservice without it feeling like it was out of place most of the time.
I was thinking the same thing when I saw this scene. I was expecting that to be one of the first things he would do and was surprised when she was left like that. Considering spoiler[she dies a few moments later] I would have thought they would dialed back the fanservice for at least that moment. |

Reading her review of Dragon Ball Z reminds me of why she's one of my favorite people on this site. And I've never even watched the damn show.

DxD really has a good plot, but it always takes a back seat to fan service, and really does not start to hit its stride until the later light novels. Remember this first series only covered 2 out 15 light novels.
But as far as fantasy settings, intriguing characters go its really good. And of course this show is not shy about admitting, its true harem ending or bust, instead of the typical non endings that harems seem to alway trend towards. |

Neither am I, but I'm pretty sure Koneko has Bs at most. And not nearly enough screentime, either. The problem with shows like DxD(besides the obvious) is that if you don't like implausibly large chest-melons, it doesn't really have anything to fall back on. The story isn't laughably inept, but that might actually exacerbate the problem. If it was at least hilariously bad, there would be some entertainment value beyond giant animated tits. As it stands, if the novelty of enormous gazongas doesn't do anything for you, all you're left with is a pretty generic teen power fantasy. |

I really like the Ocean Group version of DBZ, and prefer it over the voices/music of the original Japanese and Funimation versions (I have to admit, the Ocean dub fight between Goku and Vegeta still gives me goosebumps). I realize it's crappy on a lot of levels. The horrendous editing is one knock, and sometimes the dialogue gets so cheesy/wonky that it takes you out of the immersion. And the opening song was always eye-rolling, even when I was a kid. But the overall peppy, light-hearted spirit of the entire sound production is why I like it better than the other two. It's the sort of dub I can have playing in the background while I'm working on something else, that I can occasionally glance at without having to sit glued to the television. Those are the kinds of shows I like, and that's why I'll always love this dub.

Haru killed my mild enjoyment of tsuritama. Shrill voices in that timbre just irk me, makes me wanna strangle the character, and potentially drop the series, but I didn't and I don't feel I was rewarded either for my perseverance. The fish alien takeover plot just left me behind on the side of the road and I couldn't get into it or care what was happening. It's the type of manic silliness in writing that I don't gel with.

I agree that the first half of DxD was stronger overall but the 2nd half had Raizer Phoenix (whom wasn't given his due by this review) and he saved it from the mediocrity it would have otherwise dived into. I was surprised that this was an ecchi harem-esque show where there were male characters who were reasonably competent; there was actually a reason that women were so interested in Issei and it was a kinda-plausible one (and more than "he's just, conveniently enough, the only dude within miles of these women").
Scott Freeman was almost up to the levels of greatness set for this sort of character by Doug Smith in Goldenboy all those years ago. Chris Smith as Raizer was surprisingly well done. I think that Funimation needs to get that guy in more of their dubs. I didn't care for Jad Saxton's character as she spent almost the entire show as a disaffected termagant (to use a euphemism) who decided that she had the right to violently (and frequently) abuse the main male character (who, of course, had no choice but to take it). Her character did not, as Redcrimson pointed out, have "a generous C-cup" sized bust. Not no way, not no how. Maybe if we went by the Japanese letter standards (where a C would be much smaller than in the US) lol. |

well give of course saw DxD anime dub with some mixing new name voices & some fresh voice.
with usual indeed once again jamie marchi indeed still at it again with rias oh my indeed give also scott as issei well took a whole new level yea with s2 dub coming to watch yea wonder is endless. & oh there saw tsuritama give fine decent checking to watch of sorts give way it design it well quite fine to see. |

Okay. You haven't really given the show a chance if you make comments like that. You do realize its a light novel? A 15 plus volume light novel. And you know that LNs have like 10 pages of pics scattered in between 150-200 pages of text. So clearly there has to be more to the work then just large breast, if the light novel is as popular as it is. I can't see big breasts when I am reading a wall of text. Also, I could easily say the same about PMM, take away the lesbian lolis and you have a generic magical girl show. Oh but they deconstructed a genre that means it must be good. No its been done before, to a much better degree, and deconstructing something does not imply quality. I could also same the same about Nanoha, if took away fate x nanoha, no one would so much as blink at this generic show. Or Ghibli, take away that signature art style, the name, and most of the movie are pretty generic fantasy or drama fare. Obviously taking out a major element of a show will weaken, but one must consider, if that element is not something you like you are probably not a target of that show. I mean why did you even bother watching the show, if you had no interest in big breasts. I am not going to watch a documentary on paint drying in hopes that something unexpected might happen and catch my interest. |

Tsuritama was probably my favourite 2012 series. Sometimes i just need a show to make me feel warm and fuzzy and happy inside and Tsuritama just managed to do that for me. I loved all the characters, the music, the colourfulness, the silly and the serious elements. A truly lovely little show.

After checking out Kimi to Boku when it came out, I was very worried about what Noitamina was gonna do with this new show (at the time) called "Tsuritama". I'm not exactly a fan of fujoshi-type shows, so when Tsuritma was NOT that for the most part, I gained a surprising amount of respect for the show for that alone.
I dig the art style, and I like how Haru reminds me of Sponge Bob (i.e. obnoxious, lovable oaf). It was great at being a feel-good show, and during the serious moments, the show still gave a positive vibe. If I had to recommend a slice-of-life that isn't focused around girls, or just light-hearted show in general, Tsuritama would definitely come to mind. |
