I don't know why they bothered with any formal announcement, it's basically just the same people from the first two movies. The new characters get maybe two or three lines.

Hell, most of the old characters only get two or three lines.

In fact, pretty much anyone who isn't Shinji or Kaworu get only two or three lines. The movie's pretty much just Shinji and Kowaru fondling each other for two hours. Almost nothing occurs.

Has there been a general consensus of which version of the series is a better experience? I've never seen the anime or any of the movies, so I'm curious as to if I should check out the anime, or just knock out the movies.

Starting with the second Rebuild, the rebuild film feels like a film as opposed to say the first rebuild which felt too much akin to a condensing of the first several major events.

Unless Spike Spencer some how has learned to voice act in a range for Shinji other than "shouting= emotion" I can see no point in willingly listening to the Dub version of 3.0 because as PT said

I certainly enjoyed listening to Megumi Ogata and Akira Ishida playing off one another in there respective rolls.

The Spanish dub was fukking amazing. Better than the Japanese & English versions. Unfortunately they only dubbed the 26 episode series. Past that, nothing else was dubbed unfortunately. Not sure why. Probably some parents and priests got ass hurt and protested it. Because it sure wasn't due to it being a flop. People all over latin America went ape shiit over it. It's just the church has a lot of authority in those countries and once they heard how Christianity was portrayed they had major sand in their vaginas.

No one was recast since the previous movie.

The "new" roles are actually minor characters who don't do much.

The Church would just bitch about the 3rd rebuild movie openly promoting homosexual relationships anyway, even if the current pope pretty much said in not so many words to, as you put it, "get the sand out of there vaginas" when it comes to minor issues.

Nobody does much. It's Rebuild 3.33.

I say watch the movies first so the first Rebuild film won't feel like a recap movie and you'll enjoy it more like I did as opposed to watching the show then the movies.

Also the films are easier to get into.

If you don't mind angst, whining, depression and a not completely satisfying ending choose the TV show. If you prefer somewhat less whining, but the loss of the depth of several characters from the original for more focus on a single character choose the movies. Personally I prefer the manga for the better experience.

Really it depends on your tastes. I do like the original show quite a bit, but it can be tough for many people to get through and I wouldn't force it on anybody. So if you are looking for a "better experience" as you put it or less likelihood of someone being irritated then I would say that would be the movies. Its also less of a time investment.

Interesting about the cast announcement. I didn't think we would hear anything about this until December. I guess we won't have to wait until next summer to get our mitts on a BD. Here's hoping that its no later than February.

Jerry Jewel as Kaworu.
I don't know if I feel anything about that, but it made me pause.

If only. They reduced the sexual tension between these two from awkward and apparent to practically platonic. And the piano easily has the most lines in the film.

I assume so. 1.11 and 2.22 were released that way.

The piano playing is a metaphor for all their sex.

Not that I mind, but come on, a little more plot development, guys.

Of course. Besides, I don't even think we got a 2.0. If we did, it was the theatrical showings.
