Aside from the Wanderers TV series which I love as an expansion of the original, those first 7 episodes are really the only self-contained story that matters for El Hazard with a beginning, middle and end in my opinion. That's honestly where I stop when I watch my original OVA set, because afterwards it gets too redundant without much point or just ends up going nowhere. Here's hoping we get this in the future!

Wow. I'm actually tempted to import this. El Hazard was one of my all time favorite series early in my anime fandom.

Aside from Ifurita's voice, I agree that it's aged remarkably well.
Just know that when watching it in English whatever Japanese text will appear on-screen won't likely be subtitled. I made the jump in importing the Haibane Renmei and Ergo Proxy Blu-ray sets, which were just gorgeous-looking, but even in English they still had plenty of unreadable but important Japanese text unless you're fluent in the language. That's why I'm hoping for a domestic relicense of this title, however long that'll take.

Geneon hooks it up. 2 BD 4 CDs with this bad boy. You'd get lucky if Bandai would give you 3 BDs at that price.

The second OVA and the Alternative World TV series are pretty awful overall, but the first episode of the second OVA has lots of wonderfully obnoxious Fatora. She's terribly under-used as a comic character.
El Hazard is like distilled early '90s without the annoying parts that Tenchi Muyo has so I might buy this if anyone brought it out over here.

As much as I love El Hazard, I'm actually a bigger Tenchi fan, which among other things I love for its characters and charming sci-fi weirdness/humor. This may be a biased perspective, but the 1990's were a really good decade to be an anime fan.

Though i am surprised there are releasing an english dub in japan. the question is will this be a new english dub? OR will this one be the Pioneer/Geneon release? Or will it either be an animax asia release since their the primary english dub company for all of Asia? i for one hope its the pioneer release or a new dubbing.

I imagine that Geneon-Universal retains the rights to their dub and added it to the Blu-Ray as a simple extra feature, since it already existed. It simply doesn't make sense to create a new dub for an older series for a release in a country where it isn't the native language.

Ergo Proxy and Haibane Renmei have blu-ray releases with English dubs? If so, that's the bigger news here for me.
Of course, Funimation has so far only moved to give us only the "meh" like Cowboy Bebop and Lain on BD.

Lain is "meh" to you? Really? Well, the one thing I will say is that Funimation gave this title a genuinely snazzy limited edition box set. But I wish they were able to do the same for Haibane, which I personally feel is the bigger Yoshitoshi ABe masterpiece.

Yes, yes I do. Bland voice acting in both languages (biggest flaw IMO), lackluster and illogical plot that can be seen a mile out; basically I hold Lain in the same light that the detractors hold Ergo Proxy (eg:pretentious, slapdash, loss of focus). The Funi boxset for Lain kinda sucks, their QC issues with it have made me afraid to really use mine, as the box is known to peel and the artbook to break under its own weight. The issues with low quality video on the blurays is saddening. But at least they tried, and I bought it in the hopes that they would continue making these BD releases (and I had preordered it before I heard the reports of its questionable quality lol).
I'd put Haibane Renmei above Lain, most definitely (even though its dub actors, with Carrie Savage as the sole exception, weren't up to snuff), though I'd put the criminally-underrated Texhnolyze at the front of that pack.

To this day I think Erika Weinstein was and is perfect as Reki.

well it wouldnt be the first time it happened.
though i have a feeling it might be an animax asia dub if geneon universal dont have the dubbing rights.
