3 hours cut to 2? Yeah studios, taking a hatchet to a film always works out so well.

""I do have opinions, but it's better to bite my tongue."

Lol...just by saying that is acknowleding that his opinions are negative. Shows with such low reviews that it's been getting are usually reserved for things like cheap horror. I expected a bit better, honestly.

Can't say I didn't expect the awful reviews. I had hoped it would turn out good but this movie was crap :/ if they have another version of this, they should switch.... Quick... Spike, your movie sucked.

Should've opened in January along with the rest of its kind. The film will be pulled from whatever theaters it's currently running in in about two weeks anyway once the Hobbit comes out, maybe sooner. One thing I have noticed in critiques and talkback is that no one at all, anywhere, in any capacity, has mentioned the manga's existence. I wonder if anything or that sort will occur with the upcoming Kite, where there is no Korean film that's called "the original" and there is no manga, just an extremely graphic OVA.

Brolin might not have liked the hour long cut, and what it did to the film. Looks like Brolin and Lee will get a pass for this film, and all blame will fall to the studio.

As long as they release an uncut disc, otherwise no one will ever see a potentially better film and claim that what did come out was bad and chalk it up to a "what could have been". Otherwise, it'll only ever be "studio interfered, movie sucked, and there's nothing to be done about that".

Maybe there'd be a director's cut come out later.

But we can't know how the current movie is until we've seen it.

(Happy Thanksgivukkah everyone!)

varmin: Like that Fincher remake, it was an unnecessarily long version of a simple story.

Ryuk: It's a limited release, so it's actually a pretty good take.

Spike Lee's mentioned the manga. But after seeing the film, the co-creators still might wanna pull an Alan Moore on their screen credits.

No, my issue is the opposite, that some idiot involved is going to shoot his/her mouth off that all or most anime is like Kite-which will work out just great for everyone when Media Blasters puts out the uncut version on Blu-Ray. Mad

Tars: It's already tedious in its current form.

I think the consensus is that it's not really a bad movie... but it's completely unnecessary. Park Chan-Wook did it better and Spike Lee and the writer did not do nearly enough to change it from that film. I mean... filmmakers whose idea of a major change is to make the hammer fight longer, are not trying.

A person that has never seen the original will probably enjoy it just fine.

As a person who has seen the original, I'm not paying $9 to see it in a theater. I'll be waiting for a director's cut to rent. I really don't want to bother watching what acounts as a big budget knock-off more than once.

$30 million is big budget to independent filmmakers or those who've only ever worked with miniscule amounts of funding, but it's really nothing these days. Romcoms with decent casts cost twice as much.

Not only shitty but also unnecessary. I'm not even sure I'd touch the uncut dvd even if Spike himself begged me personally :/

But I say this after having watched the original as well. And in my mind, I couldn't help but compare this to the korean version. And if you have seen the korean version, you know what this film is up against. It's like David vs. Goliath, but only this time, David comes in at a really bad time, gets crushed and spit on and kicked far, far away.

Well, I prefer the manga more than the Korean film, and I still found myself forced to admit that the Spike Lee version can't compete with either one of 'em.

Both of the non manga versions suck. They are both bastardisations. Koreanising is just as bad as blackwashing/whitewashing/Americanising, ESPECIALLY in Japanese media. It doesn't help that according to perception polls, both the Japanese and Koreans have negative views towards each other, ESPECIALLY South Korea to Japan. Japanese hate Koreans for always clinging to the past and Koreans hate Japanese for denying the past.

But I find it funny that nobody cares what Koreans do to something like Sailor Moon even though it was millions of times worse than what you guys did to it, but when North America(and only North America) does it, people get all flustered and butthurt, even though the Korean dub of Sailor Moon is significantly worse. Just my 2$.
