There goes any hope I had of buying Nisekoi once it gets a home video release. Still looking forward to the simulcast though

Aniplex basically keeps their shows in-house these days so when I learned that Nisekoi was produced by Aniplex, I just figured it would be an Aniplex of America show. I doubt Viz was even able to make a bid for it.

And since this year I've bought a few Aniplex shows on home video, most of their shows aren't really that much more expensive than Funi, Sentai or NIS America.

You havnt really looked at prices, have you? Aniplex of America generally charges 90 dollars for 7 episodes. NIS and Funimation generally charge 50 dollars for 13 episodes. NIS obviously be subtitled-only (good for me!) AND almost always comes with some kind of physical bonus items. That's a FAR better deal than AoA. Sentai is generally only 10 dollars more expensive than NISA. I'm talking bluray prices btw. It's okay to defend AoA because you have a nice, above-average job and can afford to spend hundreds on a single show but dont try to defend them by pretending they're anywhere near the competition when it comes to price.

I've said this a lot but I'll say it again. AoA doesn't care about fans. They're here purely for money. If they cared about fans like NISA does then they would lower the prices to get their products out to a much wider audience. I have no respect for them, outside of the people that actually make the good anime they have.

On DVD, both sets of Magical Index and Scientific Railgun were about $100. To own the whole of Sword Art Online on DVD, it's $120 dollars. As I said, not much more than Funi.

To own all of Blast of Tempest, it's also $120, and I think Oreshura is about $60 for 13 episodes so QED you're wrong about prices and Blu-Ray is a whole 'nother kettle of fish.

EDIT: FYI, I make under $20,000 a year so I save up for Aniplex releases. And they're worth every penny.

I don't see anything wrong with Aniplex of Americas practices... hell, they are way better then the STANDARD price in Japan. They are just finding a middleground where American audiences can be more profitable while not price gouging them as much as the Japanese audiences are. Imagine an industry where every single new series coming out is 400 dollars per 12-13 episodes... then you'd see that AoA isn't so bad.

@AbZeroNow: If you paid $100 for Index and Railgun, you're shopping at the wrong place. RightStuf has been selling them ever since they came out for around $70 or so.

Blast of Tempest and Oreshura's sets are actually VERY expensive, considering they're sub-only. By comparison, other companies like Sentai sell their sub-only sets at $30 each. That's literally half off what the AoA sets cost. Don't tell me THAT "isn't much more".

And sure, the Aniplex sets are worth every penny..... if you like spending lots of money of cheap paper crap like postcards. Confused

I'll stipulate that I probably would have paid $20 to $30 less if I had not waited a month to buy both sets and I bought Index at a brick-and-mortar store.

Actually for the SAO volume 1 Blu-Ray(which I own), you get a extra Soundtrack CD as a extra. That is easily worth at least $20 given that you'd have to import it otherwise and Japanese prices for CDs are insane. Same story for Volume 3 which I should be able to purchase next month. Volumes 2 and 4 come with a bonus DVD.

Getting back on topic, since Nisekoi is a romantic comedy like Oreshura was, I am expecting an Oreshura type release down the road. But in the meantime, I think I'll be enjoying the stream on Crunchyroll.

Imagine an industry where every single new series coming out is $80-$100 per 24-26 episodes...then you'd be in the industry we actually have.
