If they are wondering why their profit dipped then they don't have to look much further than an increase of competition in the market from Siren Visual, Hanabee, and even Universal Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Australia.

Don't start going into financials and sales levels of individual SKU's between distributors. Yes there's a more competitive market, but it isn't where you would think. |

So if I've read the article correctly, Madman are fine for now and this is just happening because the higher ups need to make up for losses in other areas?

That's correct, Funtastic Limited is making losses, Madman isn't making quite as much money and Funtastic want their books to look amazing come mid year. Funnily enough Madman are still doing quite well, could always be better but they're well and truly profitable. |

That makes sense. After all, Madman are a big part of the Australian DVD industry even outside of anime even with the competition growing stronger.
Although to be honest even though I've been a supporter from the start (I was one of about 5 people in the audience at SMASH 2012) I'm growing progressively less fond of Hanabee. Sure they brought Monogatari, Toradora, Daily Lives of Highschool Boys, Utena and a number of other shows that would probably have never made it to Australia otherwise but most of their catalog is just a bunch of random Sentai Filmworks releases that no one else wanted. Granted I'm very grateful that I can own an English release of Girls und Panzer without having to import it (Even if it is just the US BD discs in a slightly different case) but then again that's also just a random Sentai pick up. |

The present Madman company has been in good contact with the fan base, has a commitment to quality and getting things released. I hope that this continues.

I couldn't disagree more, the only chance of a response is via social media, if you are lucky. Madman don't even respond to emails, or even seem to monitor their forums anymore. Madman still release anime series with glitches, and just hope people will forget about them. I'm still waiting for the audio sync issue on CardCaptors Sakura to be fixed. Their Blu-Ray releases of Studio Ghibli titles still suffer from DNR, and Kiki's Delivery had audio pitch issue in the English dub too. Local releases like DragonBall Z Remastered on DVD, and upcoming Blu-Ray release clearly show Madman Entertainment only care about money. Siren Visual Entertainment is the only good anime company in Australia in my opinion, especially how they continue to offer many unique titles that aren't available anywhere else worldwide. |
