I'm suspecting they're getting the audience ready for a 2nd season with these films and to refresh their memory.

Atleast, that's what I hope Smile

Let's just hope it's a real retelling of the story like "Rebuild of Evangelion" and not just lazily using clips from the show like the "Gurren Lagann" movies.

Yay! useless recompilation movies. F THAT. I want an announcement of the second season, not cash grab recompilation movies.

We all know this is a cash grab but let's be honest, why wouldn't they do this? You have to strike when a franchise is hot and AoT is super hot now and before it dies out, they need to capitalize on this.

People in Japan will probably go see these in theaters, buy the DVD/BD and once we get it here in NA, people will buy it as well. They'll show these and I bet the announcment for the inevitable second season will be announced.

I say good for them. Isayama is just making it rain with the cash he's bringing in. He's still so young too. It's still new, but I'm looking forward to see what he does after he finishes AoT.

I know why they are doing this, but I do not like it. And wouldn't starting a brand new season late this year or early next year* produce more money than these 2 stupid movies?

*There is enough source material; I checked.

Is there enough material for a 2 cour Season 2 though? I'd imagine with the pace the manga is going we probably won't get one until at least late next year.

Maybe they'll fix the absolutely terrible animation and pacing in the series.

Those were the two worst parts about watching the show.

There is already enough material for one cour. Or if the anime producers wait until next Spring, they should have enough material for two cours.

Wow why all the negativity? I fist pumped at the news of this!

There is too much for me to quote everyone here and why I think they are wrong. Firstly has anyone seen the new Blu-ray releases of Shingeki no Kyojin? They have vastly improved the animation in many areas and I can't wait to see it all compiled into a neat movie. One of the issues with the series is some of the pacing and with these compilation movies they generally trim the fat, which makes me think this is will be a much more viewable and tidy experience.

Concerning the people complaining about it being like Gurren-hen, Lagann-hen and the Madoka movies "cheap clip compilations" Really? If anyone of you have actually seen those movies there are multiple brand new sequences featuring all new animation usually of a higher quality than the show itself. They also redraw tons of stuff and makes loads of improvements (even more so then the Blu-ray likely)

I dunno...just found it disheartening that people don't enjoy these sorts of "improvements" on the series. I was hoping for a "recap/improved" movies ever since the show began to drag in sections and when the animation was a bit off. This will be the new definitive version of Attack on Titan! Be happy! Season 2 will come.....

Unless they mess up badly, the movies are most likely going to be better than the TV show. The manga itself has a slow pacing, and the anime made it even slower.

Hopefully they are using these to butter people up while they wait for the source manga to progress enough to make a good-sized second season! Very Happy

Hopefully.
