Love the last two images of all the boys! Very Happy I'm looking forward to finding out more about the new characters.

I will cry if nobody translates the second novel. Sad I wish someone would officially release them in English! It will probably never happen though...

Peach haired boy looks so cute! I wish he was gunna be in the upcoming season. Sad

Anyway, can't wait to read this volume! It looks like Sousuke is gunna have a bigger role and I like his character in the books.

No it's a shounen/seinen anime with fanservice for girls. Just like Kuroko.

Easy to mix them up, I know.

Free! and High Speed! are not shounen/seinen works. They're aimed at women not men.

But they can't be classified as shojo/josei either which are genres primarily aimed at women? You can probably put both the anime and the book under slice-of-life to disregard all the gender exclusivity going around.

They can be. Anything aimed at women/older women can be classified as shoujo/josei. Also shoujo/josei are not genres. They're demographics. (Young girls and older women.)

You're kidding yourself though if you think it was meant for a gender neutral audience. It's very obvious who they're aiming at.

Got a source that says otherwise? "It's obvious who" ain't a source.
Just cause it has pandering doesn't make it aimed for girls. Haikyu and Kuroko are "obvious who they're aimed at" but they're actually aimed at guys lol. Until we get confirmation it can be for anyone I saw. No need to limit it by gender.

KNB is obviously aimed at men. I'm not sure how you could even really confuse it for series specifically aimed at women considering cowtits and the fanservice with her in KNB.. Those series also don't have as much fanservice for women/fujoshi as people think they do, and I'm a huge fan of BL with some serious shipper goggles.

Look at the BD/DVD covers. I'm sure they really had male otaku in their minds when they came up with those. Look at the magazines they do most of their advertising in. (Mostly magazines aimed at women.) Look at the little otome game it got. (I'm sure KyoAni was really was thinking of the male otaku and their urges to date the Free! boys with that.)

I'm not limiting it to gender. Saying it's aimed at female otaku does not mean men can't like it. Just that it was made with female otaku in mind and it was. KNB and Haikyuu!! are aimed at men, but women like them too, doesn't mean it was made with them in mind.

People really should stop with the train of thought that shoujo/josei means "romance stories with female main characters".

There are tons of fantasy action manga aimed at women that have mainly male casts. Just because they don't run in Hana to Yume doesn't mean they aren't shoujo.

Surprisingly no, it's a slice of life/sports series if you really think about it. Though is definitely plenty of fan service for females.
