Unless you count them subsuming MX Media, Crunchyroll buying other companies is a new thing.

This could be good if their suggestion algorithm is up to snuff. That's one thing I think Netflix has over like everything else out their. The things they feel I'll rate 4 or 5 are always content that I end up loving.

It seems mostly about getting Crunchyroll as a choice in front of more people and making the discovery of content on Crunchyroll easier.

The first benefit seems likely to be getting Crunchyroll on more Smart TVs, since Redux is shipped with Sony GoogleTV-based smart TVs and as the default discovery option with LG smart TVs. At the time that Redux announced those deals, It was also the #13 downloaded app in the Samsung app store.

Plus they have helped some partners start up channels, so if additional skillsets are needed to stream to any of those targets, they'd have those skillsets.
