To expand on this, on Thursday, July 3, Otsuka will be presenting a lecture entitled "The Rebirth of the Saga and the Fabrication of History: Gundam, the Aum Cult, and Attack on Titan"

He provided this summary for it:

Why do shows like the latest Gundam, and of course, Attack on Titan, resonate so much with audiences in Japan and around the world? Manga critic – and manga scriptwriter – Eiji Otsuka (MPD-Psycho, The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service) analyzes the re-emergence of grand narratives in Japanese popular culture as a reaction to literary and subculture movements of the 1980’s and incidents like the 1995 sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway system by the Aum Shinrikyo doomsday cult.

This lecture will be within the scope of this year's Anime and Manga Studies Symposium, the track of academic presentations, talks, and panel discussions that are now an annual part of the AX program.

In the workshops, to be held on Friday and Saturday, Otsuka will talk primarily about his work as a writer. He will also be available for a book signing in the Exhibit Hall, to be scheduled by his publisher.

Damn Jennifer Cihi is gonna be there? That is awesome. As much as people hate the Dic dub the dubbed songs are one of the most endearing parts of it to me. I mean I'm sorry but as a kid I would always sing along to My only love and the Power of love. I still have them downloaded onto my Iphone even as dated as it is. It never gets old for me.
