Excellent review as always, Hope! I remember seeing the original Hetalia season and it's sequel World Series back during my first two years of high school. I have a huge fondness for the show, and I do plan on sitting down to watch the third series as well as re-watching the previous two seasons sometime soon. What I really love is the lovable cast of characters, as well as Hidekaz Himaruya's devotion to world history.

One thing I noticed is that (at least for the first two series) the English dub would cast separate actors for each and every role, with the exception of having Eric Vale as both America and Canada as part of a joke. I mention this because the sub would often do double casting for it's rather large commedia dell'arte, with special mention for one man voicing both Italies and one woman voicing the two chibi versions. I say this because I must commend Funimation for going above and beyond in terms of matching each actor to each role. Did you notice this?

EDIT: And I didn't even see the subtitled version! I just looked up the cast list for the subs and voila! There's Daisuke Namikawa voicing both Italies.

Sorry, don't know anyone who considers Hetalia offensive, I only know/see tons of people cosplaying it. It's hilarious and good fun. If you think it's offensive, well sorry, but go to the second hand store and see if they sell something called a 'live'. If they do, get one. Next~!

I want to have the Netherlands more in Hetalia, but it's not gonna happen Sad Which's a shame, he could be quite fun as a greedy character. (hey, this is the country were some people literally give you half a cookie to go with the tea, you know. Not kidding. :O www)

Hetalia always hit that sweet spot of comedy, history, and cute boys for me, but I agree that this was definitely the strongest season. The April Fool's episode's shameless pandering was perfect, as was the episode where the countries compare horror movies. I hope there's more Hetalia on the horizon, because they literally have all of history to adapt.

I just finished this last weekend and it was great fun revisiting the franchise. I especially loved the horror movie comparisons, and the explanations about them in the extras.

I suppose it's either because there is no overall storyline in the 5 min shorts, or else the reviewer found it difficult to rate history.

When people say that the Hetalia dub is funnier for Americans, I'm always like ???

Hetalia, on its own, the source material, became the biggest animanga fandom in America PERIOD and held that spot for at least a couple of years (at least through 2011). It did this WITHOUT a dub, because for a huge chunk of that time, it wasn't even out here yet.

I think it's plenty accessible in its original form.
