Ah another Sunrise anime and looks like this one is going to be an original. Should be interesting!

I miss the days when anime wasn't just a CGI fest.

Perhaps the twist is that it's really about finding out who stole the the letter <L> from them. And hey, where's the one who's crucial character trait is her especially large breasts. I'm not sure if I can form an opinion about any of these characters without knowing their measurements.

Sorry, sorry...

A mecha series with an exclusively or nigh-exclusively female cast and female leads might be a refreshing break from the habits of the genre.

Yet I still want to go ask them, "oh, dear, who dressed you like that?" By no means do I think that a show that's draping fantasy imagery over a science-fiction premise should be obliged to attire its characters in strictly practical, realistic clothing, but those bizarre, assless quasi-swimsuit flight suits seem just as unsuitable. I think it would have been a lot cooler if they wore something that drew from chivalric imagery, like cheap canvas fedoras and polyester vests from Target stylized adaptations of medieval knights.

I appreciated that it presented Princess Ange, which sounds like the name of a character from The Real Housewives of New Jersey, seriously and dramatically with no bumbling or bouncing to make her cute, sexlessly sexualized and generally not threatening. Yet, that does make the Fredericks of Hollywood flight suits seem more incongruous. Maybe that kind of stuff will be in the series, but at least they're not leading with that pigeon-toed foot.

I'm skeptical and a little leery, but I would be particularly pleased if this turned out to be a good series. I'll at least be paying attention when opinions start coming in.

Oh, and...

Do these sentences read better in Japanese. Descriptions like these always come off as awkward and a little affected, but I've often wondered if that's just something that comes from the original source that can't much be helped in English.

Sorry. I did my best to translate them faithfully without losing any meaning from the original. Those two were especially difficult.

A Rondo of Angels and Dragons? Sounds vaguely familiar.

The music, the mechs, the dragons, the abundantly female cast, good thing they're the ones who came up with My Hime in the first place or they'd sue.

I am honestly thankful that it's an anime original and not based on a Light Novel series. On the other hand, it feels like it will be turned into one.

Also, plug tails? Grounding wires?

"Mana/data technology" is related to magic by sheer name alone but still works like mana/MP would in any game. I'm actually impressed by how convoluted that is. {Using Data technology to affect the world would imply something though...}

Quote:
What was waiting for her there was a fateful meeting with a group of Norma girls who know nothing but battle. The girls spend their days riding humanoid robot weapons called "Barameiru" hunting giant dragons that have come from another dimension to invade.

These are quite literally giant space dragons from nowhere and that's just their place in the synopsis. "Here's your paradise, lot of good it did you as a Norma. By the way, look over there. Now look at this. Now let's fight them." Wait, where do the angels come into this?

Shouldn't they be fighting a revolution or something? Why stop the dragons from invading a world that's already discarded them?

Why Giant robots... skip that one, it's Sunrise.

I like Sunrise, I especially like their original, non-Gundam shows but this premise is flaky. I do see a couple of places it could go, several of them decent. Also, awesome dragon.

Well, I will say one, the music has the potential to kick ass with Nana Mizuki singing the OP sequence and Akiko Shikata of freakin' Ar Tonelico fame doing the overall music! Surprised

This one looks really intruiging so far. The plug-suits are gonna take some getting used to, but I really really hope they don't go overboard with sexualization on this one. This is a first for me though, I've yet to see a mech pilot that gets out of her cockpit and shoots rounds alongside the mech. Very Happy

What "Escher girls" is to unlikely poses, we need a term for ridiculous mecha plugsuits like these.

The concept of "mecha hunting dragons" is supposed to be awesome and the "fortitude" of the exiled princess is also a draw. So naturally there just has to be a catch with the stupid pilot suits that exist so they can sell figures to Japanese otaku. Uuuugggghhh. Guess we'll see. I just hate that I have to settle for "well, it's not Vividred Operation" with this kind of thing.

Looks great and sounds interesting.

As far as the female cast is concerned, as I've mentioned before, mecha + sexy girls go together like milk and cookies. It's just an inherently good combination.

Sadly. Modern mecha needs more Go Nagai and less moe.

That mostly all star voice cast, they even got both Yui Ogura and Kaori Ishihara, coupled with the fact the main cast is female makes me want to watch even more.
