I'm finding it a lot more enjoyable than Rebecca is giving it credit for. It's never going to be a hit but the anime perfectly encapsulates the charm of a small-town music act. The honest and down-to-earth tone also serves it well; there's no chance that idols will be glamorised here as they are in other such shows. That's a good thing, because . . .
Not to mention the abundance of energy, the high animation, the hit songs, the beautiful costumes and the professional-grade dancing. But Love Live! is a cynical marketing vehicle, whereas - at the risk of sounding like a hipster - Locodol keeps it real. |

dtm, that's an interesting way to look at it - my general feeling was that Locodol was made purely to cash in on the idol genre's popularity and felt sort of canned even though Love Live is such a clear marketing ploy. I'll keep your interpretation in mind when I watch the next episode.

I like it because it has a "comfy" feel too it. While it is an idol show it feels different enough compared to the rest as its got the small town feel.

This series has a candid feeling to it. Even after their national debut they are still a small community group that never will be more than that, the situations depicted have a real life feeling to them (except for Urogokoro-kun acrobatics).
p.s. Nanako is worried about being flat (as a washboard), not about being overweight. |

^I think she worries about both - just the flat part more often. (Thinking about it, she may only worry about gaining weight in one episode. It's a pet peeve of mine.)

This is a very fine anime precisely because it doesn't strive to be a Big Deal. I'm quickly "outgrowing" anime, having had it brought home to me over several years that the basic them of most anime is grandiosity. This is understandable in a medium aimed mostly at young people, but of no attraction to an old guy like me.
Luckily, the moe subset of anime still delivers what an old person likes -- calm stories of people being loving, supportive, and/or kind to each other. The girls here don't have grandiose hopes and dreams, nor the big egos of highly-talented performers. They're just good people who're trying to do their best in the situation they find themselves in. Oh yes, and they're trying very hard to be good friends. It's touching to watch them be serious about this most basic human aim. |

The reason she is struggling is because she is a mostly untalented specimen of resounding mediocrity. That's really the engine for this show after all: making something out of Nana which she had no right to be at the outset. And that is what makes Locodol so charming. And why I like it so much. |

I am going to miss this show so much. At first, I did not like this show due to its simple art and typical slice-of-life pace. However, I grew to love it each week as it gets funny and heartwarming (and yuritastic). I learned more about the idol world. Love the four girls and their female manager. The only thing I hate about the final episode is that the duo lost to a cheap A-RISE knockoff. Overall, it is a good show. Hopefully, a second season is coming.

I had heard that episode 13 was going to be a Blu-Ray extra which will come later.
At the start of the season I was in two minds about this as i was all idoled out following Love Live s2. But this show just grabbed me. I think the thing this show really had on top of the good characters was a sense of community spirit that many idol shows lack. Local idols for local people. The idea that Yukari and Nan(y)ako weren't in it for themselves, they didn't decide to do it themselves, but once picked they were in it for their home town. It was about bringing people into Nagarekawa rather than their own success. Promoting their community rather than themselves. They didn't win, but they got respect, and they got to go home in time for their local event. The show had heart, and a sense of community, which I liked. |

Yes, indeed. Yukari is now one of my favorite Lonesome Lezzie Girls and she clearly will find a good companion sooner or later, even if it's not Nyanyako. I really liked the fact that they didn't underplay or overplay Yukari's sexuality. |
