I wonder why Sega waits a few weeks to do these complaints. There could be even more trouble if the series would get itself in if they made an anime of it.

To me this press release sounds like "My boss is asking me to sue Square Enix, so I am doing this press release to get him off my back". I mean, even once mighty software giant Microsoft new business model is litigation.

The Japanese book store in my area in the USA still has copies of this manga sitting on their shelves. Laughing

This reads like the manga jumped the gun on Sega's permission to use their characters, but everything was smoothed over.

As far as pulling the manga off the shelf all Square Enix is doing is making a "Good Faith" effort to stop infringing on SNK's IP. There is no real chance that all the copies of the manga would be pulled, especially on this side of the Pacific.

Movie posters are also the target for copyright/trademark infringement.

Square Enix has a disconnection within its ranks, actually it's got several communication issues, most notably between its game development dept and good taste.

They didn't wait a few weeks, they gave permission TWO YEARS ago. And they weren't complaining about it, they were asked by Sankei and they said what took place back then, but it was cleared up and they're on good terms.

Nowhere in the article does it mention a press release or suing. People are reading way, way more into this whole situation than need be. If people would just read an article before jumping to conclusions you all wouldn't have nearly as many questions. Rolling Eyes

I wish all these companies would shut up, as this is a good manga and I'd like to see it become an anime.

But noooo, "you used my character slightly before I gave you permission to use it!" Rolling Eyes

Oh my god it seems like the news on this manga never ends.

However, the more I hear about this copyright stuff the more interested I get in to actually read this manga. I know that there isn't anything controversial about the story (apparently), but the more it gets thrown out there the more I think about it I guess.

What am I missing here? Nothing in what I just read made me think that Sega were actually going to be suing SE.

Are some just reacting to the headline?

Anyway, it seems like Sega were alright with it in the end. They gave their blessing on the proviso that they get to see how their characters are going to be used/portrayed before it's released. They also see it as a little piece of PR for their game.

Sega seem so nice! Laughing

I'm interpreting this as
Quote:
SNK: Hey, guys, we couldn't say you could use our stuff!
Sega: Oh yeah, we had that problem a while ago. It got sorted, though.

they should immediately change all the artwork to look similar to blazblue characters or arcane heart.

I dont think it would effect the anime at all and if SNK doesn't like free advertising then don't give them any.
it may be infringement but claiming they are losing money on a dead and forgotten franchise is a joke.

Im sure they all just want to work out some licensing deal though.
