Sweet! The more that is revealed about Silent Hills, the more I get excited for it. I actually liked the past SH games (I hear screams of agony in the distance whenever I mention that), so I am not dreading anything.

Going by PT and this concept trailer, I'm guessing that the theme they're going to try and tackle for the game is child abuse, or the metaphorical/literal death of a family (or both of course.)

And reading the YouTube comments is hilarious, with all the cries of "It's not Silent Hill!" There's no actual story or characters to go by yet, and already they're wailing "ruined forever!!!" over the mere concept of the horror displayed.

Wow, that trailer. Creepy but with no jumpscares, interesting monster design (if that severed head dude's a monster) and crazy twisting of perspective to make it seem kind of like a waking dream. I'm into it!

This seems like it'll be a good game to play with friends--mainly because I am NOT playing it alone.

It seems like a lot of people are complaining, but as long as it's good, who cares if it's in the exact same style as other SH games. Silent Hill has so much potential that it's doing the series a disservice to stick to the classics.

I hope it's good! I won't buy a PS4 over it, but if there are any other games that make me get one I'll check this one out for sure.

Silent Hill isn't just about characters, it's style of horror is also distinct. Or was, rather. They keep showing first-person footage, and Silent Hill isn't a first person franchise. The only first-person segments were the room bits in The Room.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this game. I'm glad the production is back in Japanese hands, but other things like Del Toro's involvement, reliance on real actors, as well as it being first person have me apprehensive. So far it looks more like Amnesia than Silent Hill.

The trailer was a little 'action packed' in my opinion (maybe because its a trailer). I preferred the style of PT a little better because it builds suspense. But this is just a pv, so can't judge it until it comes out

I agree that the first person view does give it an Amnesia feel and that it's a hard thing to get used to, but I think that it's too quick to assume that the actual game will be in first person. PT and the trailer are only samples of what the team is doing with the game, so there's still a chance that the whole first person thing is only a trailer exclusive.

I admire Del Toro and his ideas personally. He has a love for Fantasy and LoveCraft horror though, so that may hold a great influence on the style of the Psychological Horror in SH. But I'm confident he can pull it off.

I also don't have a problem with using real actors, but that's also because I didn't even know it was the star of The Walking Dead until a friend told me, so that surprise didn't affect me as much. Plus it's not unusual for celebrities to be used as game models these days.

Kind of a letdown compared to the amazing PT, but interesting nonetheless. Still stoked. Smile

I am overwhelmed with joy, could this be a great silent hill game in the making. The trailer while action heavy hit all the right buttons of dread and scare... that creature, oh my i certainly hope they are not the "pyramid" head of the game... running from such a large creature... oh my.

Things to keep in mind:

- This is a concept video for what eventually became P.T., not for whatever Silent Hills is going to turn out to be, which P.T. stresses it's not indicative of.

- P.T. was first person to:

a) Avoid any initial direct connection to Silent Hill which is 3rd person, and which was to be the surprise announcement at the end, though other subtle hints are elsewhere.

b) To mask the identity of the main character you're playing as, which at the end is revealed to be a 3-D scan and mo-cap of Norman Reedus

c) To make everyone think this is another indy horror game by some small studio. The bulk of well known indy horror & other experiences released are usually 1st person affairs. In fact Kojima had the crew tone down the graphics of P.T. to attempt to mask over the fact that this was running on a major engine from a large studio.

- Concept videos like the one shown here are quickly made in little time to be presented to higher ups in exchange for staff and budget to make it happen. You have 1-2 mins to impress them and thus most pitch videos are by necessity exaggerated showcases. The concept video here was made by 4 people in FOX on PS4, and even reused the character model of the boy from Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.

- These videos are usually made for internal use only, and not shown to the public to avoid giving the impression of marketing a product that may turn out to be utterly different when actually under development. AS anyone can see, the difference between this concept video and what P.T. turned out to be are very large, though some things have remained intact. It's a night and day difference. Given P.T. has already released, Kojima has no problem showing us the concept video they initially used, more to get people excited at the graphical details that the FOX Engine can output, and simply to have something to keep people talking about Silent Hills.

- Actual development on Silent Hills didn't begin until P.T. was completed. The game is still in pre-production with location scouting ongoing and other fundamental decisions such as camera style and manner of release (traditional vs. episodic) have yet to be laid down. Major work likely won't begin until Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has shipped and staff move over.
