I'm sooo pleased to see both Free and Haikyuu raking up such good numbers and taking the 1-2 for both DVD and BD. It makes me happy to see the female market expanding so quickly and I have really high hopes for a Haikyuu S2. I don't know if they'll make Free 3 spoiler[since half of the cast is graduating this season], but I wouldn't be unhappy if they came up with something.

I also wish all of those zealots who swore Free! was a waste of KyoAni's time and money since it obviously wasn't going to sell (even after S1's rampant success) because women don't buy anime could explain why the female-oriented KyoAni show is starting with 19k while the more conventional KyoAni otaku show (Chuu2) barely passes the 6K mark. Plus all those people saying women only buy DVD, wondering if they're still holding on to their silly "aguments" when both the BD and DVD lists are topped by fujoshi-shows

I couldn't agree with you more! It's seriously annoying how people keep harping on about that when it's painstakingly obvious that Free! is doing really well and that it's not showing any signs of slowing down. Women obviously buy anime. Get over it already.

1 - Free! Eternal Summer 1 11,197

4 - Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! -Heart Throb- 7 (Blu-ray) 5,364

7 - One Week Friends Vol. 4 Blu-ray 2,435

8 - Rail Wars! 1 1,388

9 - Blue Spring Ride Blu-ray Vol. 1 1,208

Not implying anything about the female fans in question, I'm just saying...

Well, not only would I sooner watch Blue Spring Ride over Free!, I am watching it over the show who's biggest attraction to me would seem to be the creation of slash fiction {female fan service? Remind me, how many women are in this show? Guys depending on guys is shortened to guys on guys, yeah?}. Well made and exciting it may be but I'd sooner watch a golf anime over just swimming {Dan Doh but I'll never admit it}.

Anyways, Rail Wars place gave me a laugh while Blue Spring's is kind of depressing. Well, it's no Kamisama Kiss or Nozaki-kun as it doesn't have a mass of hot guys who...

Oh. Yeah, those female fans buy shows but the critics will never admit to the "lowest common denominator" cause behind it.

I think it's great news that Free is doing so well. I think Free! Eternal Summer is one the most enjoyable animes this season.

And don't forget Yowapeda and Daiya no A! Yowapeda is doing quite decently and maintaining a 5k average when it has 13 discs to go through plus its getting a second season and Daiya's anime has been extended. The manga sales for both have improved tremendously as well!

They where retarded from the start, plenty of other female shows where already selling like hotcakes before free was even announced.

Well, if a person truly believes that women don't buy anime, that kind of person would obviously think all those BDs/DVDs were bought by men...

The argument that was put forth when the Free commercial/announcement happened (which was rather silly) was never that women wouldn't buy anime such as Free. Before Free was even announced UtaPri and KuroBas were both recent huge sellers.

What some people were saying was that KyoAni would negatively impact their prior main base. Those who bought the Key adaptations, cute-girls-doing-cute things like Lucky Star and K-ON. The ones who were the financial means to which KyoAni became able to be self-sufficient in terms of making what they want.

It was a silly argument, but you really discredit yourself by completely misrepresenting it to "hurr durr women don't buy anime" when the proven success of Kurobas and Utapri (and many, many other titles before them) already eliminated that.

I'm curious to see how Amagi Brilliant Park will do this season, as that is once again a step in a different direction by KyoAni judging from the PV and what I've seen of the source material.

No, what people were saying was that the female market was too small to be profitable in the same way the male one was, therefore it didn't make sense to aim high budget series at them. The argument was also that high selling shounen series like KnB meant that women were content with what they had, and didn't need or want series aimed directly at their demographic.

Now, yes, all of this was because people were Very Upset that KyoAni was doing something that didn't appeal to them personally, but the arguments they made were gross, and yes, did boil down to stating that women just didn't buy enough anime to be worth paying attention to.

Huh, I thought Free! S2 would get a bump in sales compared to S1, not probably lose 20%. (I think the first season averaged 27k)

Its extremely common for sequals to drop, if anything it'd be a surprise if it ended up with a higher average.

I'm glad to see Free doing so well. If it can keep those numbers a third season might happen after all. (Although I personally want Chunibyou more...)

Like others have said I'm curious to see how Amagi turns out.

Oh Goddammit, Space Dandy is officially a bomb in Japan.

Japan, this is why we can't have nice things.

I kind of expected Blue Spring Ride to sell this much, but Rail Wars! doing this bad is surprising to me. What more could otaku ask for; Rail Wars! has big butts, boobs and a ridiculous tsundere.

Nice to see haikyuu heading for a 21k-22k average, makes we wonder whether it'll be Free or Haikyuu taking the best selling sports anime of 2014 spot.

Most fan-service shows do badly, this its poor sales performance is not that much of a surprise.

Space dandy was aimed at the western audience, they never planned on it selling a lot of discs in Japan.
