I think it might take me a little while to get used to the animation.

I don't think I will ever be able to get used to them.

I don't really mind the animation, it doesn't seem very fluid or natural, but it can get the job done. I'm more worried about Goro Miyazaki, he didn't exactly win me over with Earthsea. Haven't seen Poppy Hill though, so who knows. I'm still going to check this out.

At first I was kidn of excited about this show because Goro is directing (I love Poopy Hill so much) but I know I will not get used to the animation and honestly it just looks terrible. Not watching.

OMG. The animation is horrible. Way worse than Sidonia, which I didn't mind. Don't know if I can watch this.

I'm starting to detect this weird trend with Ghibli's characters (or...their takes on existing characters) and their lack of shoes.

They're like some weird lovechild of Rumiko Takahashi and Quentin Tarantino. Confused

Ni no Kuni was proof enough that Ghibli designs can look great even in 3D. Personally I like the animation in the trailer a lot. I was worried when I first heard this was going to be a CGI anime, but seriously, this isn't half bad.

Most people wouldn't mind the CG animation. They could easily adapt this to Western markets. It's a mainstream TV series, after all.

This actually looks pretty good. It's weird and I keep expecting it to be a video game, but it still looks good. I loved Up on Poppy Hill, so I have high hopes for this one story wise.

Isn't it already licensed for westside distribution?

I wouldn't mind the CG animation... if it was at a proper framerate. They need to stop trying to emulate hand drawn animation and accept that CG doesn't look fluid when it has frame cutting. Commit to the medium!

Yes. Also the mouth movements look weird, and the holds look too stiff. The common denominator here is that they are trying to do cel shaded 3D the same way they do 2D, and it's never going to work. The shortcuts that the anime industry has developed are designed for and can pass in 2D animation, but look utterly horrible when translated to 3D. If you're doing 3D you have to animate for 24fps (at least) and try to make the movement as realistic as possible. Otherwise you get stuff like RWBY.

The animation seems very well done to me. Very natural most of the times. I don´t know how anybody could say it looks bad.

About the technique of cutting frames to ressemble 2D, I don´t know if it´s been used here, as I see full frames on slow moving scenes, and youtube compression don´t let me be sure of that on fast moving ones.
But anyway, that trick can show amazing results, as seen in Guilty Gear Xrd.

It looks fine, you all are just spoiled. Many movies like the BERSERK trilogy ran the same way. Japan isn't pixar, come on.
