Yup, another shoujo manga to anime adaptation flops. Along with Soredemo Sekai wa Ustukushii and probably Ookami Shoujo will flop too with how its ranking on Stalker. Its nothing new, shoujo manga to anime adaptations flopping, but its still depressing all the same.

Ah well, at least the manga had a good boost.

Since production IG is merely handling the animation production of Blue Spring Ride; instead invest to be part of the production committee like it usually does, the animation company itself won't lose or gain any money from this project anyways. At least the manga boost is very very good. (Sadly, that probably means no season 2 since the anime already outdid its purpose to boost manga sales.)

Toei, you see...just because Sailor Moon is mega popular and have a loyal and global fan base, does not mean downright horrible off-model characters and abysmal animation will be enough to make this show a hot seller of BD/DVDs. No one is demanding FSN level of budget, but with two week interval per episode and numerous delays, some heart and dedication should not be too much to ask.

PS: Haikyuu's fantastic and consistent sales never fail to amaze me, and it totally deserve all kinds of the recognition and praise, after all, a good-for-everyone show that reminds people why they love anime in the first place.

I expected Akame ga Kill to have higher sales for some reason. Another case of a series being more hyped in the 'West' than in Japan?

Very true. Manga did get a nice boost.

I would've like a season 2 of the anime, really enjoyed this one. Doubt that the increase in manga sales would lead to this one getting another season. So, now I just have to hope that someone licenses the manga for print; I would like to continue to follow the story.

*looks at Sailor Moon sales figures*

Geez Toei, it's almost like you should have put some actual effort/money in Crystal, rather than none at all.

I'm not so sure that Sailor Moon Crystal's sales are actually BAD, considering the execution in that show and its production values are horrid.

Some companies are really stubborn about their franchises and TOEI is no stranger to handling their biggest hits poorly; maybe they could be blaming the below average sales (again, I don't know how accurate is this, I wasn't exactly expecting 10k sales) to lack of interest of the current audience and not enough nostalgia for the show from the former one.

The one remake I remember doing well in recent memory is Yamato 2199.

They should've concentrated more on exporting it. Could've gotten more bang for the buck on TV. They weren't far-sighted enough.

Anime sales performance aside, I'd REALLY want to see the combined figures for all the merchandise out there... Cool

These numbers don't count foreign sales, right? SM Crystal surely had a bunch of copies imported.

Yeah, I think these sales are focused on domestic sales and not foreign.

Years passed and Tôei became the worst japanese animation studio, wasting money on movies that didn't work domestically and scamping tv series, even their biggest franchise. I have a lot of respect for Mr Morishita, but it's really time to clean up the direction. They are completetly outclassed by most of other studios.
