I'm curious to see how these titles will turn out. The first Jump Start group was a mixed bag, and while I'm entertained by Hi-Fi Cluster I get the sense its days are numbered - in fact all the series that debuted this past quarter are in the bottom of the readership rankings. Hopefully whichever title we get from this one will have more staying power.

As for the titles themselves, Gakkyu Hotei looks like it could be fun, but E-Robot sounds like a bore. The first Chapter of Table Tennis of Ageha was at least amusing in how uh, special its main character is.

So I'm guessing Gakkyu Hotei is similar to the Danganronpa series in terms of trials and the exception of murders, being trapped, and a maniacal bear doll?

Is there going to be another battle shonen series that has protagnist with a love interest, best friend, cool character with likable colorful characters. Manga and anime has long story arcs. Story that has epic fights and character development closest ones that i watch and read are bleach, naruto, fairy tail, busou renkin, d gray man, blue exorcist, medakka box, full metal alchemist, flame of recca, yuyu hakusho, dragon ball z, attack on titan, hitman reborn, blazer drive, 666satan/O parts hunter, seven deadly sins, inuyasha, psyren, soul eater, air gear, beet the vandal buster, and rave master.
Also I don't like magi, one peice, hunter x hunter and also some others.
Does anyone know are there one shots or upcoming battle shonen manga series maybe releasing 2015?

It sounds more like courtroom battles only with juvenile crime. (Am I the only one noticing he's striking the same pose as Phoenix Wright?) This doesn't sound nearly as interesting as Death Note, Hikaru no Go, etc. that the writer's only other published work to my knowledge is a one-shot and a previous version of this does little to off-set my worries. I imagine it will be picked up in its entirety because Viz loves Obata's work. i am cautiously looking forward to it.

E-Robot looks blech. I'm sure there is an audience for it but it isn't me.

Soon, my friend, soon. They'll have to license Boku no Hero Academia eventually... hopefully... well maybe not, but a guy can dream.

Given who's drawing Gakkyuu Hotei I think its a pretty safe bet who's going to win this round. Shame we can't get two, I liked Table Tennis, and we need more comedies in Jump.

TAKUJO NO AGEHA is what happens when someone thinks they can replicate the formula for SHOKUGEKI NO SOMA but with table tennis. And it doesn't work.

Still a better series than NISEKOI.

Hello, name's FireballDragon. I'm new here, but I've been a longtime reader.

I just want to point out that there is no November 31st, and that the one who wrote the article most likely meant December 1st.

Ciao.

If it works the way the last Jump Start initiative went, they'll put all three series up for vote for the readers, and the one that's the most popular will get to stick around. This time around it was Hi-Fi Cluster

You sure are right! The magazine said 11/31 and I didn't even notice. Thanks for the heads up--I'll fix it.

And welcome!

Depending on how this JUMP Start stuff (and in general sales of Viz's JUMP) goes, does anyone see other markets having any influence on the polling and cancellation system? If if it ever did happen I'm thinking it would be a good few years before something like that was acknowledged but still.

I'm still hurting from losing Stealth Symphony. Boku no Hero Academia is the best new series I've read otherwise. Hurts not to be able to contribute to saving a series :'(

Yeah, that was the first really memorable line from Ageha I saw and made certain that this will be a sports comedy, which is pretty rare as far as I know.

I also like Hi-Fi CLuster, but it seems to be dropping off in interest on the Japanese side rapidly. A shame too, because this had the potential to be quite a nice technothriller. The idea of articially endowing anyone with top-level talent is a concept I don't see often. I said the same thing about Barrage as a series with high potential cut short though, but Kouhei Horikoshi's finally getting the respect he deserves. Hopefully Ippei Goto will too.

Not to mention that because it's a sports manga, this is pretty much doomed, unless the main characters give a deep impression on a lot of readers in a hurry. Ageha seems like it can do that, but it's pretty hard to tell.

As long as Erobot does not win--this is not the sort of image Viz's Shonen Jump should have, as it feels like that series is asking to be targeted by angry parents looking for an example.

Same here; Stealth Symphony had a very nice start, but it started to fall apart about midway through; I'm guessing this was due to them getting hit with a cancellation notice.

I'm guessing international audiences are just a drop in the bucket compared to domestic readership for Weekly Shonen Jump, and hence it'll be a long time before Shueisha really considers such a thing. It would be nice, however, if Shueisha would allow series that become popular overseas to continue even if they flop domestically.

Hi-Fi Cluster feels like the most recent such case to me; I remember the wording for the Jump Start survey indicating they might have included NONE of them if all three candidates received low amounts of votes. That Hi-Fi Cluster made it in not only meant it got the most votes, but it got enough votes to be a keeper.

Sporting Salt looks next up on the chopping block though. That series debuted second from the bottom in the rankings, fell to the bottom, and has not been able to move up since.
