Definitely a fun show with the characters and gimmicks. I'm not sure which character I like the best yet every one of them have their appeals. Kinda curious to see what direction the show will go though with the latest cliffhangerish ending.

For a show about characters gaining Superpowers, the show doesn't seem that interested in actually showing us their superpowers.

I think the first episode would have been better if they actually showed them learning about their powers, instead of time skipping and having what's his face tell us what their powers do.

The second episode I was less keen on, because the entire first episode built up Student Council President as a prick, then she walks in tells MC that she loves him, and he goes along with it until breaking up with her, and causing her to cry. I'm sorry, I've only known this character for about maybe an episode and a half, and in one of them she was an annoying prick, I don't care she's crying because of a break-up in the world's most disingenuous relationship. Pink hue doesn't suddenly make her interesting.

Also, almost no powers were used in this episode.

Third episode got worse, and I'm already wondering what was the point of that superpower hook. The most they use their powers is to cheat at Tennis, then the rest of the script feels like it was written 50/50 by a random word generator, and some lame Kanji minutiae.

For a show called "When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace", they sure aren't interested making it commonplace.

So far I'm pleasantly surprised with this show though I think I'm finding it more charming than funny. Not that I don't find it funny at all but I think the appeal of how these characters are interacting is the biggest draw of this show. In episode 3 when it's shown that the president mislead Jurai on how bible was spelled in English I mostly just laughed at how funny she herself seemed to think that was than as a joke itself which kind of lost me.

I can understand the complaints that the powers themselves aren't being showcased enough as honest criticism but honestly I'm just not that bothered by it. I feel that with the way the character dynamic is set up things are going as expected so far and I feel like they're saving that stuff for later in the show.

It's not the best thing I'm watching weekly but I look forward to it each week as a pick me up.

Episode one and two were good, my only thought after episode 3: Where the heck are the jokes? There was barely any in the entire episode, this makes me really worried that there gonna try to shift to a more romance/drama focus (which is what the end of episode 3 seems to be foretelling for the next 1-2 episode). Problem is, it's utterly boring, the event happening are just not interesting and far too cliche, next episode is gonna be about a character and there absent parent (most likely rich) and how there friend help them trough that, which has been done and re done so many time at this point to make me lose all interest.

I really hope that's just a temporary hiccup and they'll go back to what made 1-2 actually good.

Yeah, it's tough to say that the jokes are bad - jokes are all about the taste of the audience - but I don't feel like the show is particularly funny given that it is supposed to be a comedy. the dramatic parts are good though. They have heft without fully dragging the story down into depression. I'm sure, however, that based on the way things are going they're setting up for a lot of that later on.

On another note, I think ep. 3 goes very far in hinting to how everyone's powers were chosen. I'm putting a spoiler tag on this because I'm not sure it qualifies as one, but here goes.

spoiler[I think Tomoyo's power over time represents her wanting to go back to how her family was at some point in the past when she was happier with her brother around. Sayumi's situation is hinted heavily at her having lost someone she loved and wanting to revive them, her power possibly being able to do so. Chifuyu seems to be a lot like Maria out of Umineko - an only child with a single parent who is never around and so is seeking companionship and affection. Like Maria she has the power to create things, though unlike Maria she's not allowed (thus far) to create life. And Jurai's power represents his desire for a different self and different world, but the lack of a definition to that end, only the abstract idea. He has a power that literally does nothing, simultaneously making him special and completely average.]

All of their powers, however, seem to have the theme of being tantalizingly close to giving them what they want, but just a hair short - Chifuyu and Sayumi's case possibly more to do with their will and Jurai's verbal warnings, and less to do with the limits of their given ability. In Tomoyo's case her power can't do what she might want it to do, which is turn back time so she can try to change things.

The only one's I haven't quite figured out are Hatoko and Mirei. Mirei's seems to have to do with wanting to "have what others have". She wanted to be part of the fun of the Lit. Club but is an outsider, wanted to fall in love, etc. I'm just not sure that's entirely it. As for Hatoko, I've yet to figure her out too well. In the hierarchy of powers Chifuyu's is likely at the top. Control of the elements is probably second to that in most dogmas. Her story is still a little murky it seems, so for right now her power seems to the most spectacular and the most commonly "chuuni" with the least limits. spoiler[Her powers may just be about helping make Jurai's wish come true or repaying his kindness when he saved her by being a part of this too.]

Did anyone else see Omiko Hakodate's tennis racket from Kill la Kill leaning against a bench near a resting Chifuyu in episode 3? In-Jokes! Where's Hell Cop?

I am sort of surprised that this anime hasn't drawn more comparisons to Love, Chunibyo than it has. Of course one involves "real" powers and the other does not but it does have a lot of topic similarities.

Such as: a lot of us never heard of Chunibyo until just recently.

And: Damn it must be really annoying in real life.

Anyway it is was good to see a B review on the first three episodes which seems fair to me.

I might give this a try now that I know that it actually seems to be decent. Trigger is awesome but even they weren't going to make me watch this.

Wow, I really like Jurai, which is strange, as I never specially like main characters of similar shows. I've really liked the episodes so far, and I hope it stays this way.

Ep 4.

You can declare yourself a lolicon to an actual grade schooler and not end up being arrested? After being discovered in a grade schooler's house wearing nothing but underpants? Wow.

That armor bikini wasn't half bad.

Yeah that kinda killed the episode for me, hopefully this is just a slip up and next week is better given we seem to be focusing on Tomoyo's closet nerd-ness(?)
