It seems a TAD skewed that ALL of the AKB groups are in the same team. Just sayin'.

Even though the "winner" doesn't really mean anything, I really hope the white team wins, if only because SEKAI NO OWARI is in it. I love them. So much.

The first list is all the female acts, the second all the male acts. Are the two teams divided by sex this year?

Edit: My wife tells me that is how it always is.

For the bolded part, it seems like you have never watched Kouhaku before. The teams are divided according to artist's gender. If it's mixed artist, either based on the main singer's gender, or just simply being placed into whichever team that still has vacation.

And, based on the current voting system, the white team wins 90% of the time, so you don't have to worry about anything.

I've watched Kouhaku before, but I never realized it was by gender lol. That was never really explicitly stated as far as I can recall in the few broadcasts I've seen of it. I suppose it's one of those little details that get easily taken for granted by people who are just used to it... there are plenty of things like that in Eurovision, for example, that kind of have to be explained to outsiders, but people who have watched it forever are just inherently aware of.

Also, the first one I ever saw was the one with TM Revolution and Nana Mizuki doing the duet, where they were both white and red, which was, well, confusing.

Others would also know May J. as the host of NHK World's J-Melo (streamed on the internet and via satellite/cable), a programme in English about Japanese music.
