I personally only liked the newest one. All the ones made in Japan and the 1998 one made in the US, I found to be bad to average.

I wonder if the success of this year's Godzilla film influenced this to do this.

It wouldn't surprised me, but I think it's possible Gareth Edward's Godzilla may have done the job.

Great news. Wonder if the success of the new American film will mean we could see this one in cinemas outside of Japan?

With the yen to dollar exchange rate, I think that $26 million is a good amount. Actually, it'd be more interesting (to me) if it did over $50 million in Japan.

The only thing left to ask is what tone are they honestly going to aim for as Godzilla films have hit every bracket.

I really hope they stick to the style of the older Godzilla movies, instead of just trying to ape the new version, because there's no way they can put nearly enough money into this to pull that off.

The cheesy old style is what made Godzilla popular (to me).

I assume they will. It's not like America will acknowledge or run this movie in theaters due to it having Asian leads and being in Japanese, so they have no reason to ape the American movie. I did not like the US movies so I am looking forward to a true to the original Godzilla

It could have a limited theatrical run in the US, I have seen Asian films getting more theatrical release (limited though) in the US, so a next Godzilla film from Japan wouldn't have any difficulty.

Looks like the 2014 Godzilla film did something to inspire Japan. This is great news. :)

So is this gonna affect the Hollywood Godzilla film? Because I want to see Edwards do King Ghidorah.
I enjoyed the film when I saw it, but I tended to enjoy most of the Heisi era stuff, so cautious optimism is what I feel.

They could also try what was done with Godzilla 2000 & dub it over, though for G2000 the dub purposefully aimed to be in the cheesy fashion that the Showa Era dubs went. Personally, I love Godzilla 2000 so I'd be fine if it was done like that should this new movie get a theatrical release over here, but I could see if it might rub others the wrong way.
