The Haruhi series is depended on good BGMs, I hope they, Satelight, will manage to capture the Haruhi vibe.

Well, here's hoping the show will last around 26 episodes or so.
I wonder how Yuki will act out now that she's the starring character?

I've found that most incidental music tracks in Haruhi were actually pretty unremarkable on their own, except when it came to big moments and they used classical orchestral pieces.

Probably will just be a 12 episode run and maybe more if it does well.

If it's anything like the manga, it's pretty much the same Yuki Nagato as in the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya movie. Acts like a awkward girl around Kyon, but actually shows emotions.

IIRC, Haruhi isn't in it as much. Since she's basically a minor character in this version. Which is going to feel pretty weird.

Well, yes and no. There are some similarities there, but there are differences between this Yuki and the one we saw in the Disappearance movie. Then there's the whole...well, people will end up seeing what goes on with Yuki in this one.

It's a little bit of the Yuki we've seen, but I'd say some may not expect some of the aspects displayed by this Yuki.

I wouldn't say she is a minor character, but can definitely be classed as a supporting cast member in this series. Main characters are Kyon, Yuki, and Asakura.

The characters that are mains from the original Haruhi, that I would say are definitely minor in this series, are Asahina and Koizumi. I honestly can't even remember many scenes that Koizumi actually has dialogue in.

As for the episode run, this really can be done in 12. For as much as I enjoy the manga, I can safely say that there is a lot that can be cut out without losing anything. There is only one story, that I would classify as an arc, that has come along in the 6 volumes that I can point at and say, "That is what the anime should cover."

By the time that the anime starts, there may be 9-10 volumes. Since we're one volume behind Japan, due to a certain character's appearance...we may see a new arc starting in 6 and running through volumes 8-9.

This series is what some may call 'fluffy'. While I can't say it is a SoL series, it does have the aspect of there being smaller stories that don't build up to an over arching narrative. While I'd love to see it all animated, I'm unsure if it is all worth animating.

Volumes 1-6 can easily be covered in 12 episodes. The main arc that has been done in the series starts near the end of volume 3 and ends in volume 5.

One thing I have found strange in the name for chapters for this series is...that they're all titled 'Epilogue [insert number] [insert chapter title]' The very first chapter of this series is 'Epilogue 1 - My Favourite Place'. Not sure if something is lost in translation, but aren't epilogues meant to be at the end of a story? Laughing

I hope this is better than season 2. Even when ignoring Endless 8, it was mediocre for the genre imo.

If you recall the official Disappearance book/film, Kyon was given a choice: try to change everything back to normal, or stay in the altered reality. This manga/show is what happened if Kyon chose the latter option, so it is an epilogue of Disappearance if Kyon chose not to change things back.

Ah, I can certainly see how that'd work coming from the perspective of the reader. Something I never thought of (obviously).

But, in terms of this being after Kyon's choice, it doesn't really fit. It's been awhile since I last re-read the first volume, but what Kyon did/said in the original Disappearance can't have happened. The main reason I believe (and can remember) this is because the manga shows when they first meet Haruhi and Koizumi.

If this was meant to be showing the path he didn't take, I would've thought that Haruhi would've been involved from the beginning of Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan.

Yes, we (the readers) know that this is the path the characters could've taken. But the way the story has unfolded, there is no point in it where the events from the original Disappearance fit. In that sense, it is a 'stand alone' series.

Which is why I can see it being the epilogue from the reader's perspective, but not from a story perspective.

You are quite right in that Haruhi and Koizumi don't appear until later in this. I seem to recall that in original Disappearance Kyon finds the message in the club room before meeting Haruhi. Perhaps he made the decision not to change things there, rather than getting to the PC event.

Either way, I would see it as an epilogue to an alternative outcome of Disappearance.
