That background makes me think of Paul Rudish's landscapes, with its hard geometric shapes contrasted with soft colors. I like his background work.

I'm predicting an attempt will be made to bring it to the English-speaking world, where it will be soundly rejected, like how Astro Boy has been since the 1970's.

Think of it as the SD versions anime produce all the time.

One can hope its good. they may be making another series to renew the copyright. It maybe different for motion pictures, but Amazing Spiderman triology was because copy right agreement was going revert back to Marvel. This may not be the case, but it could be along those lines

I just hope the die-hards know its aimed for certain audience age group. For 5-12, not 45+....seriously tired of people bitching about something that not matching what they think it should be.

Maybe a general audience can enjoy the show, maybe it will only work for the intended demographic, and maybe it will fall flat on its face for any effort, but just as well I agree with the sentiment that some series creators can make a series that does not directly aim for the tastes of a potential peripheral audience.

I also see nothing wrong with making a reboot of a legacy children's show back into the form of a children's show in place of some sort of "gritty" version aimed for a supposed older audience, if it is "good" or not is something to be judged after the release.

I don't think people are asking for a 'gritty' show, but the issue is this is a western production, so it's most likely going to skew far younger than any of the anime did. Twtsuwan Atom was always a children's anime but still dealt with plenty of mature topics. Western animation is not really known for doing that so there's the fear of this being a very generic and typical cartoon. The art style looks like Flash animation, or possible some form of CG, and given France is heading this in this it has me worried as French animation tends to look very cheap looking as a result.

Then again the French are known for adding plenty of mature themes into their family shows, not to mention push the limits of Flash animation to the point of awe-inspiring. Those looking for proof need to look on Netflix and watch Wakfu.

In any case, I'm excited to see how this turns out.

Unless Sylvain Chomet is involved. That man must be the hardest worker in all of France.

While a bunch of stuff was removed, the Alan Ladd adaptation of the original anime did keep in a lot of the social commentary and kept the rapid pace, and having watched a bunch of the 80's show, they did the same too. While I liked the recent CGI movie, it felt conflicted about whether to keep those discussions about robotics-related ethics or not. Thus, I think it can go either way.
