At nearly 1.8 million copies, I think Yōkai Watch will start to overtake Pokémon ORAS within half a year or less.

GTA V holding up PS4:

http://ps4daily.com/2014/12/playstation-4-japan-sales-triple/

  • Last week, the PS4 sold over 68,000 units in Japan, which is a big increase compared to just 15,000 units the week before. The big reason for the tripling of sales is the new Grand Theft Auto 5 bundle, which was released in Japan with a pretty good discount.

Sony also released the Metal Slime PS4 edition which came bundled with the latest Dragon Quest game. This likely had a positive impact on sales.

But it’s hard to underestimate the impact of Grand Theft Auto 5: it was best selling PS4 game last week, selling some 82,000 copies.

On a more somber note:

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/231730/Ralph_Baer_father_of_video_games_passes_away.php

  • Ralph H. Baer, considered the father of home video game consoles, died Dec. 6 at the age of 92. Baer patented the home game console in 1971, a design that was eventually licensed to Magnavox and released as the Odyssey in 1972.

Baer, an engineer and inventor through and through, also developed the light gun, recognized as the very first peripheral for video game consoles, the interactive memory game, Simon, and other inventions.

Still, Merry Xmas, everyone!

Actually it was the Dragon Quest bundle which helped boost PS4 sales. 60%+ of PS4s sold that week were the Dragon Quest bundle. Not sure where that site is getting it's info on the GTA bundle being the main reason while Dragon Quest was 'likely a factor'. Dragon Quest is always the factor.

Ah, forgot about that; that's just a bit more than half the week sales, you're right.

Except last year when GTAV was the best selling PS3 game in Japan.
