Glad to see Freedom Wars and Tales of Hearts R getting some love. FW got largely ignored. And even Tales fans seemed to forget about ToHR, which is sad because I thought it was better than a lot of the other Tales games. Dat combat is so fun.

Pity there were no PC games on your list. Hopefully, they will bring Shantee to the PC.

Pirate's Curse is Nintendo exclusive as far as I know, but Half-Genie Hero is multi-plat.

Shantae's one of the few indie games I enjoy. It's an actual game for starters, and it's not some pretentious or preaching piece of non-fiction. It's not reliant on internet memes or pop culture, which is more than I can say for games like Meme Run, which I'm not entirely sure why NoA approved of that. It also has no problem with having attractive ladies and showing them off, which is surprisingly refreshing to see out of an American game these days.

It still suffers from the usual though. Most of it's actual content is copy pasted from other games like Zelda, Metroid, Rockman and it still falls into the trap of mimicing older games and not being very original or creative, but unlike other developers WayForward to my knowledge hasn't claimed to be the genius voice of a generation by coping games from over 25 years ago, so that already puts them ahead of their peers.

I wouldn't call Tales of Hearts R "overlooked" as the English localization is bizarre enough to put people off that aren't already interested in the game.
...add that to the low PSVita sales and you pretty much just get the Tales fans who have a PSVita or the VitaTV thing who are buying it.

Myself? I happily own the US localization and the Japanese Collector's edition I bought about a year and a half ago. My Vita dock is right in front of me with the dock-front Tales of Hearts R slip cover on it. Smile

If they didn't do such a poor translation (they shouldn't have changed the names if they were still going to leave voices in Japanese; and there are SOO many typos, its clear the script wasn't proofed); and maybe promoted it a bit (Tales games never truly get promoted like they should). I think it would have seen a more well-accepted release in localization.

I'm surprised Shantae made the list and I'm glad it did, now if 1/2 Genie Hero could get a release sooner than later because the wait is killing me.

Posting just to be the only one so far who knew what you were referring to when you proposed a Ramlethal punching puppet as a hypothetical Limited Edition pack-in for Guilty Gear Xrd.

Really, Chipp's presidency could benefit from a few localized-in Clinton jokes.

I like Freedom Wars a lot, I'm not done with it, but the fights are really fun, the concept is cool, the presentation si great. And I made my accessory extra creepy. The chara design is good too, especially for a game where you create your hero. It definitely deserves more attention.

If the typos you're referring to are in Beryl's dialogue, she's supposed to speak like that. It's made clear early on that she misspeaks.

No I'm not talking about the Beryl intentional altered words I'm talking about ACTUAL typos. I'm not the only one who caught them either. My brother notice them as well.

I thought Freedom Wars was pretty popular. Probably not as good as it should have been for a AAA title, but I heard on an ign podcast that it sold decently.

I bought the new Bokujo Monogatari game on launch day, and am very happy to have it. It came with the same angora bunny plush keychain, which is probably why Xseed doesn't have a penguin. lol

Honestly, wouldn't it just have been easier for everyone if they had titled the new "Harvest Moon" "Farm Story" or something like that? It's a direct translation, easy to remember, and there wouldn't be any confusion between three different titles.

Unless people knew that Harvest Moon was called Bokujo Monogatari in Japan and that Bokujo Monogatari translated to Farm Story, they'd still be confused if XSEED called it Farm Story. And chances are if you know the Japanese title of Harvest Moon you follow the series enough to know about the whole Natsume/XSEED conflict not to be confused to begin with. What should have happened was XSEED call it Story of Seasons and Natsume call their game something else entirely to not trick and mislead unknowing people who like Harvest Moon and using the brand name to lure people to play their bait and switch shovelware. It's very anti-consumer to mislead people like that.

Shantae and the Pirate's Curse might even see some more attention once it finally gets an European release.

The Top Five Overlooked Games of 2014: Child of Light is something that deserves its place among the finest games ever produced. I can't get enough of that game and I only wish there was more to play, like an extra dungeon DLC (just a formality, the game is fantastic on its own). I maxed out Aurora and the entire party, found everything and collected every trophy ages ago. I'm not lying when I say I want more, perhaps another entry by Ubisoft Montreal? One can hope.

Tales of Hearts R: The game's biggest obstacle was the translation. It basically reeked of those old 90s dodgy fan translations, where the common practice was to add extra lines of dialog where there weren't any before, like the terrible J2e translation of Final Fantasy IV. To be fair, at least the general translation of Hearts R is coming across fine, but the extra lines make it hard to enjoy those scenes the way they were meant to be. Not to mention the inconsistency of the artes names. Before this, there were the complaints of Xillia 2's artes not being consistent with what was used in Xillia 1; so I hope this gets sorted out by Zestiria's release or the bitching is going to reach some new levels.

Suikoden II: The game is just as incredible as when I first played it way back then. I'm amazed I managed to snag a copy before the limited production run became an issue. I guess I just knew when to buy games I knew I would resonate with (though I owe it to my friend for showing me the first Suikoden and getting me hooked in the first place).

There's actually a third time you could've missed Suikoden II that I've yet to see ANYONE mention on he internet. When it was first put up, it was on the PSP store, and was FULLY COMPATIBLE WITH THE PSP. Apparently this was an accident, and they had intended to remove PSP compatibility, because they think doing this will get more people to buy Vitas I guess. The game was taken down at some point during the afternoon, put back up, and now HAS NO PSP COMPATIBILITY, even though it had it before. Ridiculous.
