As a fan turned "well that ride ended over quickly" because of how uninteresting the series as a whole has become over the years, I only have one thing to say:

Lisbeth is still the best girl.

Now...

Only thing worth watching for this was the bikini part and the insert songs.

Suguha(or should I say Leafa) is the best waifu.

I actually watched this last night... or rather, the first 8-or-so minutes and the last 20-or-so minutes. The rest is all completely skippable.

Instead of priming me for the second season, this special reminded me of everything I hated about the first one. Still, I'm glad I gave SAO 2 a try, because it turned out to be quite enjoyable and even emotionally affecting, except for that short Excaliber arc in the middle. For some reason, I can only get into the in-game stuff when it's somehow tied to real-life stakes for the characters.

I get the feeling reading the review that you're criticising the recap with new footage for being just that, a recap with new footage which I don't really understand.

As a recap with new footage it is one of the best I've seen behind the One Piece specials. It showed the recap segments in a way that worked and got showed many of the best bits (though there is a lot of those to choose from), learning a tad more about the girls and the fun quest at the end. Yet to watch it dubbed though.

Also I feel recaps are basically for fans of said series, no point recommending them to anyone who never watched it or enjoyed ii.

One of the lines is "By the way, how did you all meet my brother?" I'd say the recap segues were awkward and transparent: easily one of the worst I've seen. I haven't seen One Piece, but recap episodes I thought were particularly good are Girls und Panzer (narration by the breakout character Yukari, providing a fun, lighthearted angle on the show you can't get outside of an in-character commentary, along with clarification and new information about the mechanics of senshado) and Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death and Rebirth (interesting and artistic narrative framing and neat presentation of character and story, plus editing tricks like using the sound of a slap to replace spoiler[the gunshot in Kaji's murder]).

I turned up a notepad of running notes I made watching this special when it first came out. A brief sample:

* Shitty, generic "hurr, gonna be late" opening
* Lame, uninspired "pretty counseller" jokes. This after the two have married, had sex and fallen in love. What infantile character writing.
* Awful, tryhard chair design
* Asuna's sneeze is the worst I've ever heard

I'm still undecided whether it went for being a recap episode trying to be a pool episode, or a pool episode trying to be a recap episode.

I don't think PG rated swimsuit scene and a bathing scene qualifies as 'unabashedly fanservicey'. Come on now.

There's no reason you can't criticize something that is just a clip show of what you already own, especially if it's something that you have to spend your money on. If it's 25% filler but new stuff and 75% rehash that weakens what it's reusing footage from in the first place, it absolutely deserves criticism.

That is why I was surprised at the run time. Even with fanservice stuff, I don't see how the show has enough to warrant 100 minutes.

and however if asuna hadnt existed and especially if she wasnt blood related to kirito would have been chosen by most people to be his love life.

and to be frank sachi is probably better than lisbeth. too bad the author axed her just like that. definitely one part of the series i really disliked. though that is now in question since shion have appeared on season 2.

also i wasnt surprised at all on this review one bit.

i mean since its a filler OVA you have to expect oggles of fanservice which i definitely liked. i mean almost every popular series that have an OVA filler ep have fanservice to keep fans into the series.

He should Just be glad that the fanservice isnt ala those h-doujins where it becomes an uber harem with him and those girls or what i kinda hoped it was when it was announced , where the two siblings / cousins were a secret couple.

that would have seriously poed a lot of people since the possible romance of those two is what had some people called the fairy dance arc the worst.

Hey, at least the artwork on the package makes it clear what you're getting into, though I do find it funny to describe this as reading a plot synopsis that randomly displays girls groping each other.

The best recap episode I've ever seen in an anime is for Speed Grapher: The villanous organization is doing its accounting, and most of the episode consists of our heroes causing trouble for them. It begins with the money the organization had gained that year. Then, each time a scene plays out, the screen pauses and shows how much the organization has had to pay in damages, lost fees, and PR.

The further along the episode goes, the funnier it gets as it becomes increasingly clear how much of a financial drain the main characters have become.

I enjoyed the series for the fanservice and because Asuna's voice is that of Lucy Heartfilia (Funi dub) and she is among my all-time fave anime girls.
