Personally my favorite dub of 2014. Jamie Marchi is superb as Rias (won her 2 awards last year). Very Happy

Teri Rogers improved as Akeno for this season IMO.

Also nice to see Phil Parsons getting some bigger roles in recent years (Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom was when he proved he could do much more range than loud, dumb Nappa)

That sounds like more of a displeasure due to personal reasons - not something that can be held against the series, especially given its themes and settings - than an actual demerit of the show.

Theron does raise a good point about the plot development that might take things too far for those sensitive about their beliefs. Honestly, I had some trouble getting past it initially, but I did come back around when I focused on what I was really there for: one of the best fanservice shows to come around in recent years.

Also, I am really looking forward to the third season. New left off at a point that begs for a continuation, which was much easier to tolerate when I knew that there was actually more of the show in the works.

Was not interested in this series until it was stated.

I have Christian fundamentalist relatives and take great pleasure in making them uncomfortable. Twisted Evil

To be clear, I am not personally bothered by it in the slightest. However, all of my immediate and extended family members are devout Christians, and even the most liberal-minded of them (i.e., the ones who might tolerate the fan service) would have major issues with the story content here, possibly even to the point of finding it offensive. Hence I think it's entirely fair to bring it up as a negative.

The final battle was hilarious. Vali's "What the hell are you talking about?" face when Issei started screaming about boobs was awesome.

Smile That part was cracking me up since exactly none of that was going to actually happen.

These days everyone can find something somewhere, even if it's absolutely ridiculous like in this case, that is in their opinion offensive. Just because someone might find it offensive it shouldn't be a negative thing.

But that's just my opinion. I actually found it humerous to see it as a negative, and thought it was a joke... Laughing

Can you go into more detail about what the show has that might offend (and use spoiler tags if necessary)? I consider myself a Christian but not a "normal" one by most standards (as I believe that the initial part of the universe was made by God and then he used evolution as science has shown, and I also support gay marriage. Sorry, not trying to get political here, just trying to show how open-minded I am) so I might not be offended by what happens. For example nothing in The Devil is a Part-Timer! offended me at all with demons being good and certain angels and priests being bad. Also the His Dark Materials trilogy didn't really offend me, nothing even phased me in the first two books but admittedly in the third the author basically just started saying, "Christians are stupid" which felt in poor taste but I was more annoyed than offended.

Fanservice doesn't really bother me (just as violence against virtual people is not real violence, I don't consider virtual nudity to be real nudity) so that's a non-issue for me.

Here are some things that MIGHT offend Christians. Though, if you're an anime fan, you are probably used to these.
spoiler[ God is dead. Angels and demons working together. Angels becoming demons. Demons not being evil. Priests being evil. IMO, it's pretty lightcore.]

I hope Chloe Daniels gets to be in more anime (I know she was in We Without Wings but I haven't seen that dub yet) because I liked her as Asia.

Well, I'm a Christian, though I'm not sure if I'd qualify as "devout". Most of the cosmological stuff in High School DxD made me laugh, especially the bit about spoiler[God is dead.] Among Christians, the idea that you could spoiler[kill God] is absurd because his existance allows reality to exist; it'd be as if a character in a story was able to kill the story's author. But I'm used to Japanese messing up that understanding and instead thinking he's like what *they* call gods, who are merely powerful beings and are most certainly killable.

The whole "system" aspect of answering prayers was pretty silly, too. Fallen angels turning into devils is within the Christian world-view, but for Christians *all* "devils" were once angels so this whole three-way that exists in the show wouldn't work in a Christian cosmology.

Anyhow, I don't take any of it seriously. It's no different than when NGE's Hideaki Anno talks about using Christian symbolism because it's cool or exotic -- a mere gimmick not to be taken seriously.

I noticed a lot more voice actor pseudonyms this time around. Ramona Newell is most certainly Lauren Landa, and I still doubt that Chloe Daniels isn't Leah Clark.
