this sequence of episodes had some of my favorite moments of the show. The shonen-action fan in me, in particular, loved the Ryuko vs Nonone (? not sure i have the name right) fight; it's exciting, imaginative, and has a climax that kicks all kinds of butt. (Favorite Joke Bonus: <GASP> <GASP> *unzip sweater* <GASP>)
I really want to pick these sets up, but it's kinda hard for me to convince myself that i can spend the money

I'm already buying the series as it is, since for the most part it was an enjoyable ride and one I should eventually revisit at my own pace, but somewhere around this part is where I gradually realized that Ryuko wasn't exactly getting as compelling of a character arc as the quality of her voice performance would suggest.
In other words, while I did sympathize with her, the dramatic emphasis wasn't really making my heart pound, even if Nui did come across as a fairly significant threat at first. Can't say I would necessarily agree with the review's assumption that the audience will immediately understand that vengeance against her would be pointless though. Even if Nui is both self-aware and totally insane, I think a lot of us did want her to receive a modicum of retribution and cheered when she eventually got some of it. It's not the biggest of complaints, to be sure, yet the episodes covered in this volume do mark the moment where I started to find what was happening with the rest of the cast -and also some but not all of the comedy- more entertaining to watch. On that note, Takarada was pretty hilarious and I can see the dub following up on that, even if in a somewhat non-politically correct way. |

Yeah, you know this review is bad when they give KLK an extremely high animation grade. Where? Where is this animation you speak of? You'd find more(in terms of both frames and fluidity) in a Hanna Barbera cartoon! Then again, Fate/Zero's fluid animation got a C or something, so I don't think ANN can tell the difference between art and animation, but that would imply that KLK even has the former.
Anyway, I agree, the dub was very good and this part of the show is really quite tense. Waiting for more of that dub. |

This review really highlighted why Nui was my favorite character in the show: she's such an alien existence, one to which human morals will not, cannot be applied. She's the kind of character that gets under your skin, straddling the line between sanity and madness with sadistic glee.
That being said, I find it hard to believe that the English dub for her can possibly be as good as Yukari Tamura's sublime performance. While I don't usually favor one language over another, there's just no beating Tamura's super-cutesy overtones when applied to an adorable, remorseless destroyer. I may have to find a way to watch some of the English version to compare. |

I just receive my copy yesterday and have yet to open it. Now that I have a BD player now all I need is a HD TV and private place to view it. I can't wait to finish my collection.

well alongs as nui dont go on a potty mouth spree ala panty and stocking when she does lose, it'll be ok. especially for the english dub version. though it definitely proves i am no prophet. kinda though seph would have been chosen to voice mako and either ruff or higins would have done nui. though the real flaw about vol 3 is not much info on ragyo. i mean how in the holy high hell could she get worst anime parent in the last forum over medusa let alone gendo ikari? |

I REALLY want to purchase Kill La Kill on disc, but I REALLY don't want to pay that much for the whole collection. This review reaffirms my desire and is not helping me avoid spending more money than I can afford to.
Glad to hear the discs are at least quality since they are relatively expensive. |

I love Kill la Kill so much. That box art is the official box art for BD Volume 5. Kinda sucks when you lack all the goodies that the Western releases lacks, including box arts.
Here is what the official versions look like from the side-view:

Note that the box art of Mako with both of peace signs next to her head is the official box for volume 3. The one that we see here from the Western version is actually the official box art of Volume 5. -shines the blu-ray tags- They're all factory sealed. Never been opened yet. I liked the inverted Inverted Patama, nice touch 
The battles of Ryuuko against Jakuzure Nonon and later Harime Nui were among my favorite scene fights for the show. |

Ah man, yeah. I got both the First Press Release BDs and the art design. They went through many, many designs until they hit the final design for Patema. She had many hair colors as well. |

I can't wait for the next two releases. That's when Kill la Kill got really intense for me. But I really enjoyed rewatching the battle with Nonon. Watching this insanely reliant on visuals kind of show in English is helping me enjoy it even more than I originally did. A lot of the jokes I can actually process now, whereas watching it in Japanese made it harder to because I constantly had to look down at the subtitles. Fast paced shows such as this I prefer to watch in my own language. And it helps that the dub is very faithful.

HA! i doubt anything that she ever did would outdo the BS medusa and gendo did to their kids. sure she definitely looked and acted like a master manipulator,especially where it concern ryuoko, but really. it definitely will boggle the mind she can outdo those two abominations of parents that personally deserved to be given a worst fate than what they got. |

I'm really enjoying Kill la Kill! Though I confess I have yet to watch this volume. I have a question about the volume releases, do you have to buy each individually or is the full box set been completely released?
