For the record, Sailor Moon is rerunning on two venues. For areas that get TV Osaka, it's running on the network at 8AM Weekdays, an episode a day. They're currently on Sailor Moon Super S. TV Asahi's Satellite channel, TV Asa-Ch. 1, is also running the series, 6AM on weekdays, as well as Wednesdays at 8PM for an hour. They're currently on Sailor Moon R.

I'm curious to see what the quality of the broadcast footage will look like, and if Viz really was given cruddy masters for their Blu rays

I don't think Viz was given anything, they just went ahead and did it.

I'm just praying this is enough to convince VIZ Media to put this show on Toonami. Yeah it's a lot more "cutesy" than the other shows on there, but hey America deserves to see the uncut uncensored Sailor Moon English Dub we've been waiting 20 years for. That and I don't have Hulu. So I'm screwed unless they show it on TV. DO IT ADULT SWIM!!!!

I really don't see Adult Swim getting the rights to air Sailor Moon. It just wouldn't fit in all that well with their current shows, and Toonami already has enough long-running shows as it is. Besides it would have to air in the middle of the night and, Viz probably wants the show to have more exposure than that.

This is the type of show that doesn't strike as something you would see on a public broadcasting channel/station or its variants.

Considering Adult Swim is already filled with kids anime, Sailor Moon's only strike against being on Toonami would be it's a shoujo. Action cartoons aimed at girls or starring girls have a bad time in America, though I suppose it would have the nostalgia factor to help it's case.

I would have to disagree. It is quite easy to see the character designs are not really shoujo (unlike say, Kamisama hajimemashita or candy candy) and the story was modified so most episodes use the formula seen in super-sentai shows (as in, there is a monster of the week to defeat and a big bad boss at the end of the arc). Of course the episodes will look dated to younger viewers since 16:9 video is a given nowadays, but I do not understand why people keep saying that an action show with females has low ratings, I can'r remember one, maybe said shows were bad by themselves and therefore had bad ratings.

I would love it if they replayed it here in Canada, it used to be the best show on YTV in the 90's and even early 2000's

The character designs have nothing to do with it. It's usually classified as a shoujo anime because that is the audience it was produced to attract. All the associated toys and merchandise at the time of it's airing were also marketed toward girls.

Excuse me, but plenty of videogames (for home consoles and even arcades) were done with the sailor moon franchise, most of them beat'em ups. Also, many wall scrolls and figurines were done at the time obviously marketed for the male market. The simple truth is that the 90s anime targeted both demographics (to maximize profit) while crystal obviously is targeted towards females.

I know that the series attracted a male audience, but I think the intent was primary-middle school age girls as the original target. See this Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sailor_Moon

We could also ask Justin, if you want. It would make a good Answerman question.
