REVIEW: Apocolypse Meow GN 1

I'm pretty sure this will do poorly, which is a shame. I want to see more manga outside of the typical shounen/shoujo fare we usually get. I loved the art samples I saw on the Japanese site, but the fact that I've never found an actual plot synopsis anywhere doesn't speak too highly of the story. Goes on my list of comics that I want to read if I can get it from the library/borrow from a friend/otherwise get for free, but I doubt I'd pay for it.

If this first volume is any indication, there *is* no plot per se; it's just a series of vignettes or unconnected one-shots.

So why no mention of the great Antro War Comic Maus, which almost shares some characteristics with Apocalypse Meow in some senses (Rats are Jews/Polish, Cats are Nazis, etc.). Kinda a travesty in some small part....

Maus won a Pulitizer Prize. I'm not expecting this to hold up to that kind of level.

Erm... Maus is mentioned, though not by title.

Hello all... I'm Jeff, one of the translators of this book. I'd like to thank Mikhail for his positive review of our translation efforts (but I need to know- where did we make the boo-boos?)... of all the books we have done so far, this one was by far the most challenging... the slang, historical references, and getting the tone of the GI's speech just so caused Masako and I much hair-pulling and tooth-gnashing. We also have to give full kudos to the ADV in-house translation staff, who pulled our fat out of the fire on a few occasions (research) and helped immensely with their suggestions and careful revisions to our text... we were not displeased with any of their changes or corrections, as they immensely enhanced the final product.
Glad to be aboard these forums!
